Liverpool hold talks to sign Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha

Liverpool have reportedly held talks over a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, as per Sky Germany.

Despite selling Curtis Jones to Inter Milan this summer, the Reds decided not to purchase a new midfielder. Meaning, Andoni Iraola currently has Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Trey Nyoni and Dominik Szoboszlai as deeper midfield options.

However, the Hungarian has struggled with fitness problems in recent days, while Endo has found himself on the periphery over the last two years. On the other hand, Nyoni is still very young and needs time to develop.

As a result, it appears Liverpool are considering strengthening the engine room next year. Sky Germany report that Iraola’s side have identified Nmecha as a serious option after being impressed by his recent eye-catching performances at Signal Iduna Park.

The Merseyside club have even held talks with the player’s representatives. However, they haven’t shown any concrete interest in finalising the operation and are prioritising buying Lamine Camara or Alex Scott.

The 26-year-old is valued at around £54m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2030. So, Dortmund aren’t in any rush to sell him, and they usually play hardball to let their big assets leave.

Nmecha is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed box-to-box midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the defensive midfield position. He is dynamic, strong, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Nmecha to Liverpool

Since joining BVB from Wolfsburg in 2023, Nmecha has established himself as an undisputed starter. Having proven his worth in the Bundesliga, he has secured his place in the German national team.

Nmecha is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Moreover, he possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League.

Therefore, the Dortmund star might be a shrewd acquisition for Liverpool should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, following a hard-fought victory over Villarreal in the Champions League, Liverpool are set to face Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League this weekend.
