Everton in talks over audacious swoop to sign Marcus Rashford in January

Everton are in talks over a deal to sign Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford in January, according to Football Insider.
Rashford has endured a topsy-turvy spell at Old Trafford in recent seasons, and his Transfermarkt valuation has even dropped to £29m.
Aside from his breakthrough 2015-16 season, where he netted eight goals under Louis Van Gaal, the 28-year-old hit double digits in each of his following three seasons. He also netted over 20 goals in the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, his first career downturn came the following season, when he netted just five goals. Still, he returned to form quickly, enjoying arguably his best individual campaign to date in the following 2022–23 season under Erik ten Hag, netting 30 goals and scoring in the 2-0 Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle United.
He suffered a dip in form in the subsequent two seasons and only saw a resurgence when he joined Barcelona last season, netting 14 goals for the Catalan giants who were heavily tipped to sign him permanently.
Barcelona instead opted to sign Anthony Gordon, which led to his reintegration into Michael Carrick’s first team. After eight games, he has yet to score or assist, and there’s an expectation he could explore a departure away from Old Trafford.
As a result, Football Insider claims that Everton are in talks over the potential transfer of Rashford to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January.
Rashford to Everton
Providing more details on the situation, former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, revealed that the Toffees have ‘strongly’ discussed the prospects of signing the 28-year-old and believe his arrival will be a success similar to Jack Grealish, who arrived on loan from Manchester City.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said, ‘Yes, this is definitely being talked about and quite strongly. And I think that could be an interesting solution.’
‘Rashford did well when he was on loan at Villa and at Barcelona as well. I think it could work, and I think being close to where he is in Manchester, just along the M63, could also benefit him greatly as well.
‘We’ve seen Jack (Grealish) moving across that way as well, and when he’s fit, Jack is certainly a big asset for Everton. So think Rashford would be a very interesting signing, and I’m hearing there’s a lot of smoke here; it’s definitely being discussed.
‘I wouldn’t be surprised to see something happening in January.’
Rashford will hope to record his first goal of the season and seventh against Chelsea when United travel to Stamford Bridge to face the Blues on Saturday lunchtime.
