Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has heaped praise on Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes.
Since moving to Old Trafford from Sporting CP, the 32-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League. He has helped his side win a couple of domestic cup competitions over the years.
The Portuguese showcased his productivity last term, scoring nine goals and registering 22 assists across all competitions. He even broke the Premier League’s assist record and guided United to finish third in the table.
However, the midfielder has displayed average performances thus far this campaign, scoring four goals and registering a solitary assist in 11 appearances in all tournaments.
As a result, United have struggled, languishing 16th in the Premier League table with seven points from eight games. They are currently just one point above the relegation zone.
Now, on Overlap Daily, Gerrard claims that Man Utd have got some good players, with Fernandes being the best. He has terrific talent and is a pleasure to watch.
Gerrard said:
“Manchester United, if you go through the squad, they’ve got some good players. Bruno Fernandes is the best player. I look at him and when I watch him and when he’s at it, even though I’m a Liverpool fan, he’s a pleasure to watch. He’s a terrific footballer talent-wise.”
Pundit heaps praise on Fernandes
Fernandes is a creative midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the flanks if needed.
Following a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Como, Fernandes slammed Michael Carrick’s tactical approach publicly. As a result, he remained an unused substitute vs AFC Bournemouth last weekend, where United endured a disappointing 3-0 defeat.
So, speculation surrounding the English boss’ future has been emerging in recent days, but he is likely to continue as United boss.
Apart from Fernandes, valued at around £29m by Transfermarkt, Man Utd currently have Mason Mount as the specialist No.10. On the other hand, Youri Tielemans and Shea Lacey can provide cover in this position if needed.
However, Mount has struggled with fitness problems since joining from Chelsea, while Tielemans has found it difficult to settle into his new surroundings. Moreover, Lacey is still very young and needs time to develop.
Meanwhile, Man Utd are set to face Chelsea in the Premier League next weekend before taking on AS Roma in the Champions League next week.
