Arsenal on alert as Paris Brunner could leave Monaco in January

According to Teamtalk, Arsenal are among European clubs alerted over the availability of Monaco striker Paris Brunner ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Gunners signed a new left winger in Christos Tzolis last summer, but there is still more room for improvement. The hierarchy could seek to address the concern in either January or next summer.

Amidst this, Teamtalk claim that the Gunners have been alerted over Monaco’s tight financial situation, which could pave the way for Brunner’s transfer as early as the winter transfer window.

Monaco would ideally prefer to loan him back for the remainder of the campaign.

Unlikely deal

Brunner signed for the Ligue 1 outfit from Borussia Dortmund in 2024, but barely played during his first two years. However, he has had a wonderful breakthrough this campaign, scoring eight goals in just nine appearances in all competitions.

Folarin Balogun was previously Monaco’s main man upfront, but he has fallen down the pecking order after his deadline day move to Everton fell through last summer. Balogun’s relationship has seemingly broken down after refusing to join the Toffees at the last hurdle.

Monaco are poised to offload the USA international this winter, but Brunner could likewise move on amid their financial woes. The Principality club are facing a huge financial setback for the season after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Brunner after his breakout with Monaco’s first-team, but we doubt the Gunners would pursue a deal for the youngster, given the very small sample size of just nine games this campaign.

On top of this, Brunner has been far from convincing outside of his goalscoring exploits. He has averaged just nine passes per Ligue 1 appearance, winning only 30% of his duels. He has plenty to improve to make the next step.

Arsenal have had their struggles with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres upfront this campaign. The former had a forgettable game against Fleetwood Town recently where he was guilty of squandering multiple big scoring chances.

If the Gunners were to pursue a new striker, they are more likely to push for a marquee solution such as Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez. It seems unlikely that they will sign a young marksman, who has yet to prove himself over a long period.
