Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, as per TEAMtalk.
After finishing third in the Premier League under Michael Carrick’s guidance last term, the Red Devils decided to revamp the midfield department in the last transfer window.
After being linked with expensive options like Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni, Carrick’s side ultimately opted to buy Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba.
However, Tielemans has displayed below-average performances thus far this season, while Santos has struggled to find regular game time. He has only featured in recent games due to Kobbie Mainoo’s injury absence.
Now, TEAMtalk state that Man Utd are considering strengthening the midfield department once again next year and have identified Nmecha as a serious option. They hold a long-standing interest in the German and have made contact over a potential swoop.
However, Liverpool are also in this race and see Nmecha as a potential alternative option in-case they fail to purchase a primary target like AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott.
On the other hand, Chelsea and AS Roma have monitored his development closely, while Newcastle United previously attempted to secure his services.

The report state that after recently tying Nmecha down to a fresh contract until 2030, Dortmund aren’t in any rush to sell Nmecha, but he has a £67m[€80m] release clause, which will only become active next summer. So, the German giants want more than £84m[€100m] if they are forced to cash-in in January.
Nmecha, standing at 6ft 3in tall, is a box-to-box midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the defensive midfield position. He is a technically gifted right-footed player and has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Bundesliga.
Despite letting Curtis Jones join Inter Milan, Liverpool decided not to purchase a new midfielder last summer. So, the Merseyside club are seemingly planning to strengthen the engine room next year.
Nmecha is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd or Liverpool should either club purchase him.
