Liverpool and Manchester United keen on signing Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White

Liverpool and Manchester United have made contrasting starts to their Premier League campaigns, but there are some common shortcomings in both their squads, not least in attack, where there is a lack of creativity and dynamism.
Ekrem Konur has reported that the Premier League giants will be out to address their lack of offensive depth and quality next summer, and are set to battle it out over the services of Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.
The English international has been one of the Premier League’s best players in recent years, and his ability to return consistent output in the final third as well as the ability to play on the right wing will be especially crucial for the club who signs him.
Nottingham have yet to price Gibbs-White up, but his Transfermarkt valuation of £67 million might be a fair indicator of what Oliver Glasner’s employers may seek for his services next summer, while personal terms may not be a huge hurdle.
Liverpool could beat United to Gibbs-White’s purchase
Manchester United could view Morgan-Gibbs White as a long-term replacement in Bruno Fernandes’ role at number 10, whereas from Liverpool’s perspective, he may be a target to play on the right wing with no natural option available at the club right now.
Gibbs-White is a very influential player, who possesses strong close control, dribbling attributes and accurate passing between the lines. The 25-year-old also takes powerful shots and can delivery set pieces with aplomb.
Out of possession, Gibbs-White works hard to press and block passing lines, and when employed in a wide position, he can track back and support the full back in recovering the ball. Therefore, he would be a good fit in Andoni Iraola’s system.
Liverpool are looking like a solid side under Iraola, and a few more reinforcements could make them title contenders but the same cannot be said for Manchester United, whose recent form and managerial situations might not make them an attractive proposition for top players.
It will be interesting to see if Gibbs-White is open to leaving Nottingham Forest next year, but all things point towards Liverpool being in a strong position to sign him ahead of Man United.
