Everton showing interest in prolific Minnesota forward Kelvin Yeboah

Everton are leading other Premier League clubs in the race to sign prolific Italy U21 centre-forward Kelvin Yeboah from MLS side Minnesota United, according to TEAMtalk.

The name Yeboah is no stranger to English football fans, thanks to Leeds United cult hero Anthony, who netted 32 goals for the Whites between 1995 and 1997.

After retiring in 2002 with over 200 career goals, the goalscoring legacy appears to live on in the family, as his nephew, Kelvin, is attracting attention with his prolific scoring in the MLS.

The 6ft 1in forward has had quite the journey in football, starting his formative years in Italy with Monza before moving to England to play for West Ham United Academy and AC London FC. He has also spent time in Austria, Germany, France, and Belgium and returned to Italy with Genoa before leaving Europe to join Minnesota in the summer of 2024.

The 26-year-old has been one of the most clinical finishers in the MLS, netting 40 goals and providing eight assists. In the ongoing campaign, he has provided five assists and scored 18 goals, the most in a single MLS campaign by a Minnesota player since Christian Ramirez netted 14 in 2017.

Prolific forward

Now, according to TEAMtalk, Everton are leading other Premier League clubs in the race to sign Yeboah, who is also of keen interest to Sporting CP.

After missing out on signing Folarin Balogun from Monaco, Thierno Barry is the only natural centre-forward option available to David Moyes, leading the club to prioritise a move for a new option in January.

As a result, TEAMtalk claims the Merseyside club have been keeping close tabs on Yeboah, earmarking him as a strong fit to bolster their frontline.

Everton’s interest in a new centre-forward is understandable, as Beto’s departure last season left no reliable option up front to split minutes with Barry.

However, the Frenchman seems unperturbed by it, with his eight goals in 12 games already matching his overall tally in 41 games last season.

Still, adding reliable cover would help manage his minutes, especially in cup games, to avoid fatigue or injury, making Yeboah a good option not just to provide cover but to compete for a starting berth.
