Liverpool best placed to sign Lamine Camara from Monaco ahead of Chelsea

AS Monaco are open to selling Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara to Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.
Camara was a subject of keen Premier League interest in the recently concluded summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old found himself at the centre of a dramatic transfer saga involving Chelsea, Monaco, Everton and Folarin Balogun.
With Monaco looking to raise funds through player sales, the club reportedly allowed Camara to undergo a medical with Chelsea before pulling the plug at the last minute after Everton revived their interest in Balogun. In a dramatic turn of events, the former Arsenal striker then decided to ‘walk away’ from the proposed move, leaving Monaco with both players and no transfer fee.
Camara has since put the failed move behind him and has continued to impress for Filipe Luís’ side. He has featured in all nine of their Ligue 1 games, averaging an impressive 8.33 duels won per match. His total of 75 was the highest in the division, 12 more than AJ Auxerre’s Kevin Danois, who ranked second.
Amid reports that Chelsea’s relationship with Monaco may be ‘completely broken’ following the transfer situation, Football Insider now claims that Monaco are open to selling Camara to Liverpool in the January transfer window.
Camara to Liverpool
In a boost to Liverpool, the report adds that there’s a ‘willingness’ between Monaco and Camara to negotiate his departure, with the Merseyside giants placing the midfielder at their top target as Andoni Iraola looks to reinforce his midfield ranks.
After seeing their initial £47m deal fall through, Chelsea have pulled out of the race for the Senegal international, who is now valued at £50m, leaving Liverpool in the driving seat to secure a move for the 22-year-old in January, the report adds.
Liverpool started the disappointing 1-0 loss to Arsenal with Trey Nyoni and Alexis MacAlister as the midfield pivot. While Iraola’s side had more possession, they couldn’t quite match the physicality of their counterparts, Declan Rice and Bruno Guimaraes.
Hence, bringing in a physical midfielder like Camara, who is not only good at winning duels but also at progressing play, as evidenced by his 91.7% successful passes and 67 line-breaking passes, would be ideal for the manager.
