Man Utd stepping up efforts to sign Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon

Jacobo Ramon

Manchester United have expressed interest in signing highly rated Spanish centre-back Jacobo Ramon from Como, according to TEAMtalk.

Ramon, described as ‘magnificent’ by Football Talent Scout Jacek-Kulig, first rose to prominence in Real Madrid’s academy, where his impressive displays earned him promotion to the senior squad under Carlo Ancelotti.

The defender featured six times for the first team under the Brazilian coach, with his stoppage-time winner against RCD Mallorca in May 2025 standing out as his standout moment.

With his prospects of regular first-team football at Real Madrid uncertain following the arrival of Dean Huijsen, Ramón left the Spanish club to join Como that summer. He has since lived up to the high expectations he generated during his academy days with his performances.

In the ongoing campaign, Ramón has remained in his combative best and has even added an attacking threat to his skill set, as shown by his five goal contributions this season.

One of those goals came in Como’s emotional 4-1 UEFA Champions League win over Man Utd last month, where he did not just score but earned an 8.6 rating for his all-round display against the 20-time English champions.

‘Magnificent’ centre-back

It appears his display may have piqued the attention of Michael Carrick’s side, as TEAMtalk now reports that United have firmly entered the race to sign Ramon, whose valuation has significantly increased to £41.8m.

Having failed to reinforce their backline last summer and with Lisandro Martinez speculated to leave Old Trafford, the report adds that the Red Devils have made bolstering their defence a top priority in 2027 and have stepped up their interest in the 6ft 5in centre-back after his impressive display against them in the Champions League.

However, United face fierce competition from Real Madrid, who own a 50% sell-on and buy-back clause in Ramon for the 2027 transfer window and are seriously considering triggering it next summer, as well as other clubs including Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Fulham, TEAMtalk adds.

Looking at his statistics in Serie A this season, where he averages 6.21 duels won per game and a sky-high 91.5% successful passes, a move for Ramon should be a no-brainer.

While his £41m valuation is within United’s reach, Madrid’s buy-back clause on the Spaniard makes a deal difficult, so it’ll be interesting to see how the transfer plays out over the coming transfer window.
