Man Utd could trump Arsenal to Tavernier signing

According to Givemesport, Manchester United are prepared to compete with Premier League champions Arsenal to sign Bournemouth winger Marcus Tavernier.
The Red Devils have had a dreadful league campaign thus far and they have picked up only seven points after nine games into the season. The pressure is already on manager Michael Carrick and he could be dismissed at the helm if things don’t improve.
Givemesport now reveal that the Red Devils are monitoring the performances of Tavernier and could make a possible move at the turn of the year. However, they are not alone in the pursuit with Arsenal and Newcastle United tracking him closely too.
Unlikely
Tavernier has primarily played from the left wing for the Cherries this campaign and he has already netted six goals in all competitions. He has also impressed with his high work rate and mobility from the left side of Bournemouth’s attack.
Despite this, we don’t see the prospect of United signing him at the start of the year. Matheus Cunha has been a consistent performer from the left flank for the club, and they also have the services of Patrick Dorgu and Marcus Rashford for the role.
Rashford and Dorgu have barely impressed this campaign amid injury concerns, but could have a key part to play in the coming weeks. If United were to contemplate a move for Tavernier, it could involve Rashford heading out, given his hefty £300,000 per week wages.
Arsenal are also mentioned as suitors for the former Middlesbrough man. There is currently a staggering 20-point gap between them and United. If Tavernier were to choose, he is more likely to join the Gunners to compete with Christos Tzolis on the left wing.
The Gunners are poised to win regular silverware and would be a lucrative destination for him. Tavernier is presently valued at £25 million by Transfermarkt, but the Cherries will no doubt demand double the price for a future transfer.
We would be surprised if they entertain his exit mid-season. The South Coast outfit sold Antoine Semenyo last winter, and seem prepared to part ways with midfielder Alex Scott this time around, given his contract expires at the end of next season.
The South Coast outfit are unlikely to contemplate Tavernier’s departure until the summer.
