The Players I Would Buy If I Was Wenger

This article is not a personal attack on Wenger, this is just an opinion from a Gunner who’s been watching the best leagues in Europe in years, and who believes that these players would be excellent additions for the Gunners.

There has been a lot of speculation about Wenger’s plans of who to buy and such, so I decided to state my opinion of the players I believe should arrive and who would be great additions to the squad.

1. CB- Giorgio Chiellini- Age: 26- Club: Juventus

My dream signing, one of the best defenders in the world. The Italian international is tough as nails, passionate, a fighter, who wants to win at any cost, an excellent leader, great tackler and overall, a top quality defender. Will be a great addition to the squad if Wenger can convince Juventus, to part with their prized asset. His value will be around 15- 25 million pounds.

2. DMF- Alou Diarra- Age: 29- Club: Bordeaux

A player who struggled at the beginning of this career, but has now turned into a beast of a holding midfielder and a regular French international under his former boss Laurent Blanc. One of the best and most underrated players in his position in Europe, he’s tough, commanding, reliable, experienced, excellent tackler and a leader. He’s approaching his thirties and with Bordeaux struggling,  is probably looking for pastures new, he is a monster of a player at 6ft 3in tall, and I believe he’ll be excellent for Arsenal. He has a surprisingly low transfer fee for someone of his quality (around 8 million pounds), so he’ll be a steal for any club who acquires him…. hopefully Arsenal.

3. LMF- Balazs Dzsudzsak- Age: 24- Club: PSV Eindhoven

I know this might sound strange, but I have noticed ever since Robert Pires left Arsenal, that the Gunners have lacked a natural left-footed winger. So for my option and choice for left wing, why not go for PSV Hungarian sensation, Balazs Dzsudzsak. This player has been putting in stunning performances for PSV domestically and continentally, he has scored 24 goals in 42 appearances so far this season which shows that he has a great eye for goal. Balazs is still a young player at the age of 24, he is known for being an excellent dribbler, a good crosser, quick, almost the perfect winger. He was heavily linked last summer to the Gunners and will be on the shortlist of many other big clubs. His value will probably be in the 12-18 million pound range, depending on how much and far PSV want to keep him.

4. CF- Radamel Falcao- Age: 25- Club: FC Porto

Many Arsenal fans are crying out for a top striker and I believe that this Colombian sensation fits the bill. Falcao has been sensational for Porto for the past two seasons, in which he has scored a whopping 69 goals in 82 appearances. He is dynamic, excellent dribbler, has a great eye for goal, consistent, and he’s excellent in the air despite his relatively short height (5ft 91/2 in tall). He’ll be a big target for many European heavyweights if he decides to leave, he won’t come cheap as his transfer value, due to his excellent performances and Porto’s reputation of being tough negotiators, will be in the 20 to 35 million pound range. He’ll be an excellent addition to whichever club acquires him.

Special bonus:

Eden Hazard- Age: 20- Club: Lille

I know a lot of fans, including fellow Gooners would love to see Eden Hazard in an Arsenal shirt. He is simply one of the most gifted and talented young players in the world, and if he continues in this rate, he’ll be one of the best in the world. This player possesses excellent skill, guile, finesse, and poise especially for someone so young. He might be cocky and such, but he’s an exceptional talent nonetheless. His value is around 25 million pounds and over and has recently signed a new contract with his French club, Lille. This however, hasn’t stopped the rumors and speculation surrounding him and Wenger is known for being a huge admirer for Hazard, I’d love to see him as a Gunner.

I know this looks like an expensive list, but with Wenger’s reported budget and the potential sales of fringe players of the squad (Denilson, Bendtner, etc.), then it should be enough.

What do you think? Do you agree with my opinion? Who are your suggested and dream targets? Please share your thoughts and opinions.

Cheers and take care,

Omar –

      pires is right footed

      • Chris Bastos

        May 28, 2011 at 1:19 pm

He is right-footed player. But he mostly play at the left wing.

      • Omar

        May 28, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Thanks for correcting me, you are right about that, but he has played mainly as a left wing so I believe Dzudszak would be a good signing in that position.

        Cheers and take care,

mertesacker, baines, falcao, hazard, sakho, rinaudo…

      • Omar Almasri

        May 28, 2011 at 11:31 pm

Not bad choices, especially regarding Mertesacker, Baines, Falcao, Hazard and Sakho.

By including Rinaudo, do you mean the Italian defender? That would make it 3 defenders which I think is one too many.

        Cheers and take care,

    May 28, 2011 at 10:11 am

A gud article……but Would prefer Javier Mascherano for Alou Diarra and my MUST buy will be EDEN HAZARD.

    • Omar Almasri

      May 28, 2011 at 11:35 pm

Thanks for the compliments, Mascherano wouldn’t be bad as well, but we would be dealing with Barca and they would probably want to include Fabregas in the deal so I’m not so sure.

I really don’t think Hazard is a must, but he would definitely be an excellent acquisition.

      Cheers and take care,

Its like reading my mind ! great choice and in big part realistic(chelini i like but he has juve in his blood)

    • Omar Almasri

      May 28, 2011 at 11:32 pm

Thanks for agreeing, yes, Chiellini is loyal, but if Juve need to sell to help their fragile financial state, then we have a chance.

      Cheers and take care,

    Get Gameiro/Gervinho,Hazard,Sakho
Gervinho = The New Drogba (Good Skill,Finishing,Good Run)
Gameiro = The New Owen (Good Run,Finishing)
    Hazard = The New CR-7
    Sakho = The New Thuram

    Formation :

(Walcott—RVP—Hazard) —> The Best AM Because the winger run so fast n have vision n good skill or acceleration

Gervinho —> Good Vision n Good Skill

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:26 pm

Those are good suggestions as well Troy, Sakho, Gamiero, Gerivino, Hazard are all class.

Let’s see what Wenger does this summer.

      Cheers and take care,

  6. Nico

    May 28, 2011 at 11:13 am

Hazard is the man to win the league

  7. John Legend

    May 28, 2011 at 11:34 am

If Nasri and Fab stay,I wud lik these additions- Cahill, Alou Diarra, Gervinho, Falcao. Then Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner, Rosicky, Almunia. . . should leave. Perhaps Clichy leaves, Baines is a better player.

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:28 pm

Good suggestions as well John, I think Cahill is alright, but not for his current price, I’d prefer Chiellini or Sakho, but the rest are good, they’re all class.

      Cheers and take care,

    May 28, 2011 at 11:49 am

I’d leave the buying up to good old Arsene. But I’d get rid of dead wood like Almunia, Diaby, Rosicky, Vela, Denilson, Squillaci, Mannone, Eboue, Gibbs, Traore and Bendtner. I’d also get rid of youngsters that will never make the grade.

We’d be left with a strong first team squad of Sagna, Fabregas, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Nasri, Van Persie, Walcott, Ramsey, Song, Wilshere, Djourou, Fabianski, Clichy, Arshavin, Chamakh, Szcesny, Frimpong, Miquel, Lansbury and any players that are acquired over the summer.

I think its time we went for quality rather than quantity.

yeah this is well thought out and written… good choices all round. chiellini would be perfect, hes nails and loves tackling and has a quality head and left shoe.diarra would be very nice and is a monster which is just what we are crying out for. hazard again, no need to day anything. disagree about someone wanting mascherano over diarra, would be way too edpensive, has just joined barca and its not like our relationship with them is good. plus hes too small for what we need. all realistic and good buys. would want sakhgo though… hes nails and all, along with reading the game well like. considering we have tabled a bid for falcao, im veyr very excited about this transfer window, which normally i never am…

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:20 pm

Thanks for the compliments and praise, yeah I’m also quite excited myself about this transfer window.

      Cheers and take care,

I PREFER GET GERVINHO/GAMEIRO = the PLAYER run so fast n have vision n good skill or acceleration ( TYPE ARSENAL PLAYING FOOTBALL)

Pires is right footed you idiot

    • Omar

Are you actually calling me an idiot? Ok, fine, I made a mistake, but you shouldn’t call anyone an idiot for making a mistake.

IN – Midfield-I agree to some extend, but what about De Rossi than Alou Diarra
Defender-Chiellini is perfect at any cost
Striker-Falcao or Benzema or Alexander Pato.
OUT – Denilson, Carlos Vela, Glichy, Lansbury, Squillaci, Djourou (due to lack of concentration), Almunia, Rosicky, Diaby, Traore.

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:31 pm

Thanks for commenting, but I still prefer Diarra over De Rossi, I like De Rossi, but he has really lost a lot of form in the past few seasons, he isn’t the same De Rossi.

I think you’re harsh on Djourou, I believe he has done well this season and deserves praise for the way he has bounced from his injuries.

      Cheers and take care,

  13. John

    May 28, 2011 at 1:14 pm

How on earth do you know all these players? I follow football quite intensively but even if I have heard of these players I certainly haven’t seen them play often enough to say they’re good enough for Arsenal, let alone to know if they’d fit in Arsenal’s system. That of course completely aside from the fact that I’m not competent enough, otherwise I’d be managing a PL team.

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:34 pm

This is just an opinion John, these are players I believe are good enough to play with the Gunners, I’m not a manager myself, I’m just a football fan who happens to watch the best football leagues and is just stating an opinion and sharing suggestions.

      Cheers and take care,

Well I agree with him but I prefer hulk from porto, gevnho, samba and to bring flamin back while diaby, betner, squilac out

  15. Neo

    May 28, 2011 at 1:24 pm

I agree all of them is a good signings. However, the combination of these players transfer fees will potentially reach up to 100 m. You will have to sell Fabregas first, admin.

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Actually it’ll be around 70 million, as I suggested Hazard as a “special bonus”, he would be a special signing, but not a necessary one in my opinion. Wenger should’ve enough moner with the reported budget and sales, along with having a rich owner backing him up, it shouldn’t be much trouble at all, if Wenger wants the money of course.

      Cheers and take care,

    May 28, 2011 at 3:19 pm

The Three Players who in my opinion Wegner should go for are
    Joey Barton
    Jermaine Defoe
All should be available for Wegner type prices, two of them are English, and all three have bags loads of P.L experience

  17. Arsene Wenger

    May 28, 2011 at 4:54 pm

Giorgio Chiellini- No (Vertonghen is better and he can play leftback and centre back so he could even replace Clichy [If he leaves])

Alou Diarra- No (We don’t really need a holding mid)

Balazs Dzsudzsak- No (Nasri is better and so is Hazard [If we sign him])

Radamel Falcao- YES (He is perfect for Arsenal, just what we need, a real goalscorer [along with Van Persie ofcourse])

Eden Hazard- YES (Although we don’t need a winger, he is just too good to ignore and as we are favourites to sign him, it would be such a waste if we didn’t

    • Omar

      May 28, 2011 at 5:16 pm

Thanks for commenting, I’m sorry, but are you kidding? Vertongthen is no way better than Chiellini, Chiellini is one of the best in the world and he is a beast of a defender.

About Dzsudszak, he is a natural winger and I believe that Nasri is wasted in the wing, he plays better through the middle and of course there is a small chance of him leaving if he doesn’t renew his contract.

Maybe you have a point on the defensive midfield, but Diarra has experience and class and could surely give guidance and help to Song and Frimpong, and he isn’t worth much, so why not?

    May 28, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Thank you all for commenting, you have given some great suggestions and alternatives, let’s see what Wenger does this summer…. it’s looking interesting so far.

    Cheers and take care everyone,

    May 28, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Why has no one mentioned Mario Gomez yet? Hes 6ft 2,25years old, has scored 28 goals in 32 games this season in a struggling bayern side. He has experience at international and european level. Plus from what i’ve heard Bayern are intersted in Bendtner so why not offer him as part of a exchange with money on top. I feel he would be the perfect striker for us and would provide a finish product for all them crosses going wasted into the box. Any else agree?

    • Omar Almasri

      May 28, 2011 at 8:11 pm

Yeah, Gomez is a top striker, but it’s highly unlikely that Bayern are going to sell him unless Gomez wants to leave which is not the case. If there were ever to be a part-exchange with a Bayern striker for Bendtner, it would most likely be Miroslav Klose.

Thanks for commenting and take care,

Would you guys like Podolski and Diego. Podolski is now serving in Cologne, a 10th ranking team only. There should have ground to attract him. He is quick. Can play in both wide post and forward. Can shoot and willing to shoot, especially make shoot outside of box which is lack in the team at the moment. Diego can pass and skillful. Serving in a barely away from relegation team (last 4th) and asking to leave.

    • Omar Almasri

      May 28, 2011 at 8:14 pm

Those are not bad suggestions, but ever since their not so pleasant experiences with big clubs (Podolski with Bayern and Diego with Juventus), there are doubts about them performing with a big club, so it would be a risk signing them, but there is no doubt about their talents.

Thanks for commenting and take care,

    Arsenal need the following players:
Samba, Parker, bairnes, downing and Falcao:
    The following players should leave:
Squillachi, Clichy, Rocisky, Denilson, Bendtner, and Vela.

    May 29, 2011 at 3:51 am

    I tink I d rather go 4vander weil.rplacing sagna,verma 2d left back.get us mikel obi 4solidity&good pass 2cover d back or stweinsteinger..then falcao..dispose off chamakh,denilson, rosiky,squilaci,sagna,.bt pls let diaby,bendtner,clichy&eboue stay..

  23. aussie gooner

    May 29, 2011 at 12:08 pm

i think arsene should sign the following-

baines – like everyone i do see that our fault is at left back more than anything. sagna likes running forward and he can and does run back. clichy goes forward and only chases when we lose ball not when he passes.

fellaini – i think our central midfield is an issue. he’s a team mate of tv5 and baines. we’re changing our squad a fair bit so it’s good to get players who already know one another. i know everton won’t want to sell rodwell so it’s not even worth thinking about- he’s now the enemy >:)

alvarez – i’m hoping this is true. i’ve seen him play a couple of times on cable tv and i think he’s great. exactly what we need (but in a central role–that is fixed with fellaini). he will be a great backup to theo and nasri.

falcao – we need a #9. i been saying this since eduardo left. the day he left i said we needed it but noooo we signed fucking chamakh. worthless wenger ruining moral yet again- why? because coaches know best. bentdner is awesome and saved our ass last year- i would have loved to see him get a run in or ANY striker that was fit. he needed to play 2 strikers all season long and drop one of the b/s midfielders who thought they were a striker by standing in front of the goal but never near the play… fail.

    also REPLACE ANYONE who leaves!

my special signing? SEB FREY!!! i think he would be PERECT for the prem league, he’s finally matured (i’ve been a fan as i’m a parma supporter too as well as a gooner) and he’s french just like wenger likes hahaha. no but really he’d be fantastic.

    that’s it.
