Can Liverpool Make The Champions League Next Season?

By on June 3, 2011

Everyone knows that Liverpool have not had a great couple of years, but since the return of Kenny Dalglish, the sale of Fernando Torres and the signings of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll that all took place in January, there has been a really positive change at the club and fans will be optimistic for what the future holds now.

You can tell the way that those wearing Liverpool football shirts are expressing themselves on the park is in a much more liberal manner, giving them more freedom to play to the best of their ability. There is still a long way to go before the team can be considered as a top four team, but depending on their signings this summer, it could be a possibility.

Liverpool have a core of key players that need to be kept for them to progress next year, including; Raul Meireles, Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Andy Carroll and Pepe Reina. The club have been rumoured to be looking for a new left back and Newcastle’s Jose Enrique has apparently been targeted.

Liverpool should and will be looking to improve on the wings this summer and many feel that King Kenny will sign two wingers in order to make the club more of an attacking force. Ashley Young and Stewart Downing have been rumoured as potential targets for these positions.

Given the way that Liverpool played in the 2nd half of the 2010-11 season, it shows that they do have plenty of talent and desire to improve their league position next season. The Champions League for 2012-13 could be a realistic possibility for the club, although they will have to finish above at least two of teams with the pedigree of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham.

It is now exciting again to be a Liverpool fan and there will be a huge expectation for Kenny Dalglish to get the club back into a position they feel they are worthy of and only time will tell if that is indeed the case.

    No
They r 2 far behind the top 5.
Players like spearing (shrek 2) and the 11 year old with big ears (don’t know his name). Will not get top 4.
Gerrard is creaking and they can’t replace him. Suarez is good (but not a good as the scouse idiots think). Carrol is as good as he’s gonna get and seems injury prone already. Not a good sign for a tall player.
Liverpool will end up like Aston villa.

The strength of your argument is impressive. I think that you should run for public office, I am sure people would vote for you.

You might also have taken the opportunity to mention that the other five teams could be asked the same question! The playing field is leveling out year after year and there are at least 7 present teams that could well be contenders.

Manchester united and Chelsea are the top 2 by some distance. Arsenal, city n spurs are close.
Liverpool are nowhere near. Everton have got a better squad.
Face it. Champs league is a thing of the past.
To anyone other than a scouser king kenny looks n speaks like a old woman.

My heart says yes, but head says with this team, no. We seemed to improve so much in second half, because, we were so behind by January that, thereafter, we were hardly considered among top teams.

Besides, we had a very thin squad of good players & curtsy of Mr. Woy, by Jan we were already out of League cup, out of FA cup by Feb & out of Europa by March. These helped us to concentrate only on EPL.

Next year, Chelsea, ManC & Arsenal ‘ll spend on the squad, Spurs already has a better depth in squad than us, & they ‘ll fill few spots (The keeper singlehandedly costed the 4th spot this time)& Sir Alex is not retiring yet.

If we are thinking Kenny magic ‘ll take us to CL with CAdams, SDowning, Henderson & Jones, I actually am not that comfortable; sorry. Money doesn’t ensure success, but without good spending, in todays’ market, you don’t have any chance to compete.

Ending up like villa is best case scenario. Leeds is worst case.
I think Liverpool deserve it. I believe in karma.
I still don’t understand why all english clubs were banned from Europe after heysal.
Their fans were a disgrace last time they won champs league. Barging thru turnstiles, so sum fans with a ticket didn’t get to watch.
Then Michael shields decides to disgrace England again. They should have threw away the key with that one.
No other club has fans that have brought so much shame on their country.
Liverpool stink, and so do their fans.

so kev,i take it you was at all the events your talking about or are they just hate filled storys you’ve heard from your fellow hate filled man u supporters,i bet your about early twenties, grow up a proper football fan would’nt mention those things.

    • Kev

      June 3, 2011 at 8:17 pm

I wasn’t at those events, but I know Liverpool fans were at all of them, aswell as another disaster that I won’t mention.
They are not stories, they are factual events, and Liverpool fans were responsible for all of them. Fact.
I am a real football fan, and I old enough to know what happened. The blame was shifted.

Forgot to mention. Manchester united fans have nothing to be hate filled about. We leave that to the third world like region at the the other end of the east lancs.

Chill out man. We had that dark spot past & paid big time for it. The team that we had in mid 80s, had we not been banned, instead of Real, we could have been staying top of the list with few more titles, at least would definitely had surpassed AC (they won 2/3 titles in late 80s & early 90s, cutting our pie).

We paid higher price domestically. With no Europe for English clubs & for Liverpool future looking more bleak, one after another star started to leave us. More importantly, the British Isles based top player, who had the life time dream to wear the famous red started to avoid us.

U guys were lucky as well as a certain young Scot manager started to build another red team, just when another similar capable Scotchman left the most famous Red. At our declining time, EPL came & so did the Europe & money. Unfortunately, we had a wrong man in charge & missed the initial train, never could catch up thereafter.

Talking about the fans, why throwing stones from a glass house met? English football hooligans are famous & England was kept out of the mainland Italy in 1990, & in every WC/Euro extra precautions are reserved for them. I believe lot of them surely are ManU, Arsenal, NCastle or Everton fan.

U r the first Liverpool fan that I’ve heard speak a little bit of sense, but…….
Our fans behaviour abroad is impeccable. How many euro cups would we have won if not for Munich? ( a real disaster, not caused by our fans).
The real reason Liverpool declined, is that “king kenny” let ur squad age, bought crap and then left u in the s**t.
I think u will also find the majority of englands hard core support come from lower league teams.
If Liverpool do have a dark history, it is the fault of their scumbag fans. The most vile in the world.

Re jocks comment, don’t even get me started on the inbred mutant sectarian fans north of the
          border. Shaved Ginger apes.
