A report in the Guardian suggests Liverpool are closing in on Sunderland prospect Jordan Henderson.

The 20-year old midfielder impressed last season with a string off fine displays. His form didn’t go unnoticed and was rewarded with a call up to England’s senior team and lined up with Steven Gerrard in a home friendly against France.

Sunderland chief Steve Bruce has slapped a £20m price tag on the promising youngster after turning down a £13million approach from Liverpool. Manchester United were also linked with Henderson but have since turned there attentions elsewhere.

Liverpool have been linked with a whole host off English talent, including Everton’s Leighton Baines, Charlie Adam of Blackpool and Villa pair Stewart Downing and Ashley Young.
