International Boss Slams Arsene Wenger

Russian manager Dirk Nicolaas “Dick” Advocaat has criticised Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger on how he uses Russian winger Andrey Arshavin.

Russian manager Dirk Nicolaas “Dick” Advocaat has criticised Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger on how he uses Russian winger Andrey Arshavin.

Arshavin has been use sporadically since Christmas and has failed to recapture the form from his debut season in the Premiership. However, Advocaat believes the 30-year old should be given more of a free role to exploit his attacking prowess opposed to a box-to-box player or 20 minute impact player.

The former Rangers manager said:

“One of Andrey’s problems is that he plays 20 minutes. Wenger uses him as a player who can refresh the game in the second half.

“Andrey shows willingness to give the team the best of what he has. I worked with him for over two years at Zenit St Petersburg and I know him.

“If you expect 90 minutes of running from him, then that is not understanding Arshavin.”

The winger has been linked with a move back to his native homeland with former club Zenit St Petersburg.

obviously Advocaat isnt too clued up, or he would realise Arshavin was one of the most used Arsenal players last season. In fact he had to be used less as he was knackered!

He also seems confused saying you cant get 90 minutes of running from Andrey, then criticising Wenger for using him as a 20 minute sub! The man is an idiot and an average coach at best.

Don’t think Advokaat is an idiot and he is certainly a better than avarage trainer. Maybe people who take everything for granted what the press says and who have never heard of (deliberately) misquoting are the idiots.

Maybe it’s not reasonable to expect 90 minutes of running from a top player but it is reasonable to expect 90 minutes of involvement in the game. Watch Messi, Xavi and Iniesta and see how they are constantly involved without necessarily chasing box to box all of the time. I’m afraid that Andrei ins’t up to their mark in the passing or retention aspects.

Exactly where is he ‘slamming Arsene Wenger’ in those quotes? Of course it’s not a artificial headline aimed at attracting hits to your site is it?

@Stroller. If Advocaat is not slamming Wenger the Loser, I gladly will :-).

Wenger’s an awful manager, who has fallen off big time. No tactical nous, no bottle in the transfer market and constantly whining.
