Harry Redknapp: Luka’s head turned

By on June 13, 2011

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp faces a tough test to keep hold of Croatian ace Luka Modric. The 25-year old has been subject to intense speculation that Chelsea and Manchester United are preparing a move for the former Dinamo Zagreb man.

But Redknapp’s remains defiant that his star midfielder will be sold this summer, he said:

“If clubs the size of Manchester United and Chelsea are prepared to offer him Champions League football and massive wages, you would have to be very naive to think it wouldn’t turn Luka’s head.

“But I have been assured by the chairman that he is not prepared to sell him under any circumstances.

“And it’s fair to say he’s not happy about the unwanted attention and continuing speculation surrounding Luka.

“I have said on many occasions he is irreplaceable and it would be a massive disaster for the club if he was allowed to leave.

“We need to be strengthening the squad not depleting it. In an ideal world I would hope to bring in at least three more players to give us a realistic chance of competing for a top four place in the Premier League next season.

“United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, who all finished above us, are going to strengthen their squads so we have to be realistic.

“If we want to compete with them we have to be active in the transfer market, but I’m not suggesting it’s going to be easy. Quality players at the right price are not easy to acquire.

“We also need to trim the squad and sell a few players.”

This may be true, but head turned or not as stated, he will not be leaving. Nobody could afford him, except Man City. And as a matter of accuracy Liverpool did not finish above us, so either it was Harry’s mistake or a made up quote.

No its Harry’s mistake. You can see all the excuses coming already for not getting into next seasons CL from old ‘arry.

I would not split hairs if Modric leaves or stays. Just another happening that we cannot afford holding onto players when larger clubs are lurking to snatch them up. Just like the Berbatov scenario. At the end of the day we score bigger. We must not release cheaply.

I’m an Arsenal fan, and i like the stance Harry’s taking here. I doubt Modric wants to go there (Man U), there are no official records of him saying such. It’s true what Wenger said, transfer rumours can cause a transfer. Again, good on you Spurs.

Harry’s either been misquoted or is losing it. Since when did the scousers finish above us?

Is this bullsh*t storm ever going to stop? Or does Luka have to sign for United before it does????

Modric has said he’s happy here. The fans enjoy watching him play, he enjoys the fans’ company and his incentive to stay for at least the next two seasons is to win the chance to be back in the Champions League.

And if United and Chelsea are truly planning a move for him, the only move I suggest is AWAY from him! He’s not going to sign for you.
