Tottenham have been told by Real Madrid that they will need to splash out £18million to prize away former Arsenal man Lassana Diarra, according to reports.

Tottenham chief Harry Redknapp is keen on Diarra after working with the combative midfielder at Portsmouth. The Frenchman has been in and out of the Madrid team and wants to move on in order to find regular first team football.

However the Bernabeu chiefs insist Diarra will not be sold on the cheap and have given the player a stringent deadline of one month to find a new club.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have already had a £11million turned down by Madrid reports the Metro. Jose Mourinho is set to cash in on the 26-year old and will use the money to fund a bid for Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao.
