Clubs Taking Advantage Of Liverpool In The Transfer Market?

By on June 24, 2011

It has emerged that Stewart Dowing aged 26, will be sold to Liverpool, if they fork-up £19 million sterling, yet Man Utd are getting his club-mate Ashley Young, a proven England International for £16 million, thats £3 million more for a very similar player at the same club.

Makes you wonder what is going on. Have the rest of the league realised that Liverpool want to spend big this season and are taking advantage?

Lets negotiate a deal for this classy winger and bring him to Anfield at a decent price, asap, otherwise find a winger from abroad for half the price.

It would appear that clubs do approach any sale to LFC as a golden opportunity to show the lack of business acumen of the LFC owners to demand ( and get ) extortionate prices. Take Adam ( and I wish someone else would ) as it seems the nearer he comes to leaving for free the higher his price is! LFC has become THE club that has shown and is showing an extraordinarily lack of nouse in this market.

I believe that Downings fee is larger because of the garath barry fiasco villa are punishing us by upping the transfer price for any player we ask about a few months ago when we enquired about young we were quoted 20 million united get him for 16 million what does that tell you we should fu*k villa off and go some were else we could get better for 19 million I dont think Downing is a player that can take us to the next level as tony says mata elia or turan would be better options

Not really, Downing is not in the final year. So Aston Villa can hold on to him and charge more if they like but not Ashley Young who is in the final year.

      That’s because you’re retarded.

Go and investigate the home grown players rule.
      Then read NESV’s mission statement.
Then investigate ‘building for the future’

Downing is priced more than Young simply because he was their best player last season and also because he has two years left on his contract whereas Young had only one year left. So in Young’s case Villa had to sell or risk losing him for free next season but in Downing’s case they can wait another season.
I know people are skeptical about signing Downing but I think he will complement the system Liverpool will be playing next season very well.

i think its because of respective contract tenure. however, both are costing 30/40% higher for being English

It’s either we don’t have good bargainers? or People from England don’t want to sell to us. Why then do we still stick to these expensive buys? Let’s go foreign.

finally an article about exactly what i’ve felt all along…ever since we shocked the world by shelling out 35 million for andy carroll, every single club we approach sees us as desperate with loads of every player we are associated with are talked up by their respective managers to increase the price.whats even worse is we are obliging them by continuing the same crap.13-20 million (depending on which evaluation u believe) for jordan only goes to show u how other clubs hold us for ransom.and even when it comes to selling people we are too soft…we bought raul for nearly 12 million and we’re ready to selling one of our best players last season to anyone who can offer 14 million…a 2 million profit from the sale of last season’s “fan’s player of the season” incredible.there is a reason why comolli was kicked out of st.etienne and later spurs.

Manu are to pay 16 Mill for Young.

What is the difference and why?

Young has only 1 year left on his contract. Downing has 2.

Young is older than Downing too.

    Very Lazy Reporting
Only two days ago in interview Alex Mcleish stated to fans invited to question him over his controversial appointment that unless £50 mill offered he would be staying this next season. As for the numpty above thinking it’s a conspiracy against Liverpool you ate quite self deluded. Like all football fans, I and you love our clubs but step out of the bubble and look around. You are not top four club with a new stadium/facilities, you are still deep in debt and are going to be competing for 5th to 8th place like Spurs etc. it’s hard not to see your club at the top but be realistic you have a great history and I respect that but all these top players flooding in is a myth. The writing was on the wall when Alonso, Mascherano and Torres left and Barry chose Man City over you. Welcome to mediocrity. Lol

Ha so funny, Barry went where he’d get the most cash, I’m glad he went to city as he was never good enough to replace Alonso… That was a mistake on Rafas part. Last season was a mare for us, the Spanish Fairy jumping ship, Billy buck tooth stamping his feet and refusing to play until we sold him to Barca, The Muppet Hodgeson being appointed manager and the team having a total lack of form at almost the exact same time! Everythings changed now, Suarez, Carroll, Dalglish, new owners with money to invest and a belief in the players that contrary to what Hodgeson said they could play a bit after all as results against united, Chelsea,City and Arsenal showed! Were really looking forward to the season starting again but what about you??? One of the best keepers in the league has jogged on to spurs and your best winger (he is much better than downing, seriously) has buggered off to United!!! Hmmmm if I was you I’d be worried!!!!!!

Oh contrare, very narrow minded bias argument. I Could expand but it’s pointless.
As for the Young / Downing argument obviously you watch them every week as I and 26000 other season ticket holders do at the Villa. I also travel away although your armchair probably doesn’t travel ;-). One thing most Villains agree on is that Young is good on his day but that is few and far between the last few seasons. He offers nothing in defence, falls over too much and complains to the ref. His free kicks are rarely on target and when he cuts inside he usually fires over. Not to mention his crosses which are always perfect according to MOTD. Shame his teammates are on every position other than where the ball lands or not 10 ft tall. For stats check Downing assists / crosses / goals (non penalties) and then check Youngs. Oh and when he plays in the hole he isn’t Wayne Rooney. He’s not as mobile or determined. Downing I seem to recall was good enough to take three points during the last game of the season. As for Hodgson every one other than Liverpool fans agree he’s a good manager. Ask Fulham or the Baggies. He was never given a chance much the same as Houllier at Villa. We aren’t perfect but I can see our faults. Step back and take a good hard look with unbiased eyes. It’s difficult but it pays dividends. Thats why I see the McLeish/Martinez/Mclaren protests as pathetic. My problem with Big Eck was his negative defensive football but he was managing the scum. Lol. I have no wish for an argument I’m just expressing a different non red point of view.

Oh and we also bought Downing for £12 million injured so and he has 2 years left on his contract and is paid £60-£70 grand a week. Therefore his compensation would be high and the deal would have to be an attractive profit.
Also as a season ticket holder I can tell you that Downing far outshines Young in every respect each game. Youngs goal tally was from penalties, his end product the last two seasons was rubbish and he was keeping MarcAlbrighton out of the team much as Downind did to Certain Man City winger whilst at Boro. So whilst on £120 grand a week for the next 5 years at Manure you should be laughing that they have bought a highly over rated player. He’s like an anti Carlsberg player. He’s good but he ain’t that good.

This has been happening for ages. Gareth Barry, David Silva and Villa, even the Henderson was taking advantage of us. Barry was sold to City for £12 million when villa wanted £16 million off us. In total Valencia wanted £75 million off us, but sold to other clubs for £60 million and Sunderland thought Henderson was way more than £13 million when he’s not! For god’s sake football cop on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Villan…. Sorry to have to break this to you but we’re not deep in debt, with the sale to NESV they wiped all our debts… Before the sale we were paying on average £35M a year in INTEREST payments alone! We’re debt free with money to spend and I have to say I’d rather you kept Downing as he’s not really good enough for us!!!!

Good job your not my accountant
They paid off the debts with their money and now you owe them the money. All owners do it.
Your argument in intellectual terms is called semantics.
      Debt is debt.

And You can keep Andy Carroll as we have Darren Bent. Mmmmm interesting choice of forward. Downing isn’t good enough but the untested Championship striker is. A very flawed argument. I detect a tinge of bitterness there. Lol

Hi Villian I have to say some of your points are quite good but I do have to go along with Albert we are not in debt the debt has been taken on by our new owners unlike the last lot who heeped the debt on the club and the only way they will retrieve their out lay will be to sell the club at a profit . Financialy we are sound as We have had many many millions of pounds come in to our club through sponsership and looks like much more to come with the owners getting a lot of it from usa and asia . As for carroll and Bent, Bent is a proven goal scorer in the EPL and worth the money paid for him because of this

While carroll is learning his trade but I think this boy will become a top player . I must say villain you have made my day over young and your stats on him I do hope your stats are proved right now he is with man u as for downing I am sorry mate he does not float my boat I would try gey Adam Johnson before downing to be honest and can I just say hodgson maybe a good manager at west brom or fulham but honestly mate he was just out of his depth here like a rabbit in head lights when he said we played well against Everton after they had snotted us 2-0 that was all we could take Everton on the day played us off the park his tactics were mind boggling we played wolves and reina kicked the ball more times than the out field players so I must disagree with that point mate any way lets hope both our clubs have a good season Albey

Lol you detect a tinge of bitterness how many posts have you put up in an LFC related thread lol and you think we are the bitter ones.

Carroll the untested striker who scored a hat trick against Villa on route to a 6 nil hammering by a newly promoted Newcastle. Is that the championship striker your talking about.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black, I epsecially like where you talk about the semantics of debt. FSG paid off all the debt that Hicks and Gillett owed to the banks which they had loaned against the club. So how you work that out that the owners are now owed the money is beyond me. Obviously you have no idea about the finances at our club so maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to call people names. Call it semantics if you want but how the owners of the club owe themselves money I’m not sure.

BTW we know your bitter because all your players have left, Martin Oneill was holding it all together but your joke of an owner had to move him on as well. The way you are going Bent will be off soon and you can enjoy life in the Championship.

    But hey don’t be bitter.

Yove turned it personal that’s why it’s bitter. Lol
I haven’t posted anywhere else this us linked o. A Villa Blog and I’m sick of Downing being blasted. As for players leaving, it’s a job for them, if someone offered to double my wages I’d also leave my job and go somewhere else.
As with all clubs the holding company is owed the money by the club. This is a loan that will be payed back either when it sells or over the course of the tenureship hence it is a debt.
As for Carrolls hatrick against us. Even Torres in a Chelsea shirt could have scored it that day. We had no manager and evidently no game plan.
I will not sink to your level and pick holes in you, your club or your fan base that would be petty. I shall continue to enjoy Darren Bents goals instead.
