TRANSFER NEWS: Latest Arsenal, Liverpool & Man Utd Gossip

By on June 25, 2011

A really busy day with all sorts of rumours involving Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal, so lets go to it.

For all you Liverpool Fans

Starting off with the Daily Mirror, the paper reports that Stewart Downing apparently recognizes that he needs to force a move and that he has to submit a transfer request so that he makes the move to Liverpool happen, with the Reds unlikely to meet Aston Villa’s 19 million pound valuation.

And it looks like Aston Villa might actually finally sell, here’s what the Mirror says:

MirrorFootball understands Villa would like to keep Downing but reluctantly accept they may have to sell because they need to help boost new boss Alex McLeish’s transfer budget.

Personally, I won’t be excited over his signature. And something else from this morning’s papers: The Times report that Liverpool are set to secure Charlie Adam’s signature in less than 48 hours.

Cesc Can Go…. if Nasri Stays

Perhaps some puzzling stuff in the The Guardian, whom claim that Arsene Wenger is willing to let go of Fabregas to Barcelona if his Frenchman Samir Nasri stays at The Emirates. The paper claims that Cesc is ‘firmer than ever in his intent to depart for his home club even though he has not lodged an official transfer request.’

And that surprises me, given that he has made these few statements:

“I am an Arsenal player. I have been very happy for eight years and I am very happy. I am not thinking about football right now, just about my holidays” He Told ESPN

“But I am very happy where I am. Anything else would be speculation that is untrue”  Cesc Fabregas told BBC

Question remains though: is Nasri really more important to Arsenal than Fabregas?

And Manchester United Transfer Gossip

Last bit for today, and it seems that it is quite busy at Old Trafford. First of all, Izaguirre has claimed that Manchester United are interested in signing him, and even agreed on a date for a meeting.

“I am aware that Manchester United and Celtic agreed for a meeting in July”

Izaguirre said in Honduras

Don’t get the logic behind the move though, I’m sure that Patrice Evra has many more years of playing football in his legs, don’t see him moving either, so this move by United is a bit strange.

And that’s all for today!

Think if Liverpool are really going for Adam and Downing it is a waste of valuable resources. Just more “squad players”. Thought those days may have gone along with Hicks and Gillette. Very downbeat!!!! If such players are a benchmark for Liverpool’s ambition, then they obviously dont expect to be challenging even for the top four next year!!

Liverpool have no chance of top 4 next year.
Only their deluded fans think they have a chance.
Everyone knows they are miles behind the top 5 in terms of squad and finance.
If they think their new owners are any different than good old Tom n George they’re mistaken.

Liverpool has been wasting dia resourses, i see no reason y they shul spend such ammount on Henderson & still thinking of wasting more money. Arsenal spend dia money wisely, luk at d players they r abt to sign, Alvarez & Gervinho, i’m sure arsenal wont pay more than 21m pounds 4 both while Iiverpool av jst wasted 20m pounds on Henderson.

    • ryan

      June 26, 2011 at 2:38 pm

here dude thats because they arent as good whos gervinho even charlie nicholas said that he is crap and they shouldnt sign him why do you think use havent won anything in a while cause use cant compete you team is to young no experienceand they are nt mentally tough either sure gervinho is gonna cost use 15million for gervinho so thats nt far of the henderson deal

Look guys,, I did read alot of bad comments , due to te issue of ,king buying or rather spending huge amount of money unnecessarily for young players .. Hear me out,,,, football is nt abt one player only, it’s team work. Yap all dis years we r doing pretty bad,, bt dnt forget te last champion league we won,, we dnt have dat much quality players,, it’s abt te team work n kops spirit.. Have faith on king ,, we will make it…. If u want to be te best , you have to be with te best of te best…. Which I believe king Kenny is te one….

i totally agree with u m8 geordie dale i m a huge fan of lfc but i really think he isnt the right man to take us forward 35mill for carrol and 16mill for henderson u gotta be kidding me in that amount of money we could have easil bought two world class wingers like mata for 22mill and marin for 22mill still we could have saved some millions i m pretty sure as soon as kenny is gone u wont see these players at our club bcoz they have been bought just bcoz they r english not quality players if u think carrol is a quality player then u should not watch football from now on

Looking at defenders I believe that Christopher Samba would be the perfect buy to help support the Arsenal defence as not is he only a respectably good defender but he is loud and a strong figure in defence, this is what Arsenal lacked this season and one of the main reasons that the Arsenal Defence has been criticised this season. But I suppose next season with the return of Thomas Vermaelen the arsenal defence will have to shape up anyway because Vermaelen will be a first choice central defender which only leaves one open space for either Johan Djourou, Laurent Koscielny or Sebastien Squillaci and possibly Ignasi Miquel (who had a rather successful debut against Leyton Orient earlier this season) so Arsenal might not be in need of an new Centre back next season as I believe all these other Centre backs will step up their game to be able to compete for first team football.

Next looking at the Gervinho situation (24 year old Lille Striker who had a very successful season making 67 appearances and scoring 28 goals), apparently Wenger bid 10.5 million but that was rejected (possibly because Lille wanted an offer closer to his price tag of 15 million), so Wenger renewed his bid by making a new one of 12 million and Gervinho is flying over on the 30th of June to discuss it further.
I also believe that Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Alvarez (6’2 ft Argentinian ‘flair’ attacking midfielder) Could be an interesting buy from Wenger and it will be interesting to see where Wenger decides to fit him into the current squad with the likes of Nasri, Fabregas, Song and Wilshere, it is possible that Wenger is lining Alvarez up as a replacement if Nasri or Fabregas do leave.

I have also heard the rumours of Gael Clichy (the last surviving member of the invincible Arsenal Squad) seeking a transfer away from the Emirates, if he does decide to hand in the transfer request then Wenger will certainly look at the likes of Leighton Baines to fill the open left back spot, who in my opinion is a skilled defender and would be an interesting buy from Wenger as he doesn’t often BUY English players.

There have also been rumours of Wenger looking at the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Nuri Sahin, Everton’s Phil Jagielka, West Ham’s Scott Parker and Aston Villa’s Stewart Downing. But personally although all these players are top class players I don’t think that any of them would fit well into the 4-3-3 mutation formation that Arsenal seem to have adopted this season.

Nicklas Bendtner has handed in a transfer request as he is not happy with his new role as a substitute winger
Clubs that have shown an interest include Borussia Dortmund (which is surprising as they already have many strong forwards including Lucas Barrios, Damien Le Tallec and Robert Lewandowski) and Sporting Lisbon are the other club that have shown an interest in Bendtner.

I had also heard about rumours of Samuel Eto’o seeking a move to the premier league and he was looking at Arsenal but this looks very unlikely now as Alex Song had a bit of a mouth off with the 5ft 11inch Cameroonian striker.

Penultimately the possible return of legend Patrick Viera is a boost to a rather bleak looking transfer season as he would bring some much needed experience to the club (being the captain of the invincible’s team).

Lastly many people have been annoyed or angry at Arsenal’s 6 year run without a trophy but remember that there are great teams notably Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham and Bolton who are regular Premier league teams but rarely win trophies.
