REPORTS: Liverpool Closing In On Adam & Downing

transfer news

Liverpool are set to splash more cash as Damien Comolli looks to step up the clubs efforts to sign players.

The Reds are linked with new players from around the world on a daily basis. The latest news is that Blackpool’s creative wizard Charlie Adam should complete his prolonged transfer deal by the end of this weekend.

Comolli is set to meet with Tangerine chairmen Karl Oyston and thrash a deal of £8 million pounds out for the player that Liverpool tried to sign in January for £12 million.

New Villa boss Alex McLeish could try and hijack the deal. However that remains unlikely as their late offer is believed to be in the region of £6.5 million.

The other major transfer headline coming from Liverpool is that Stewart Downing will use the same tactics he used to leave Middlesbrough by requesting a transfer from his current employers Aston Villa.

Villa have rejected Liverpool’s recent approaches and are holding out for £19 million for the England international.

The recent departure of Ashley Young from the club sees the Villains desperate to hold on to more of their first team players or at the very least receive a high transfer fee for their stars. However these days if a player wants to leave a club then the player usually gets their wishes.

Downing has refused a new contract at the club and has made it clear he wants to join Jordan Henderson at Anfield next season and a transfer request should see a deal forced through.

The Adam’s and Downing deals will see Liverpool with plenty of options in midfield and it is expected that the club will shift some players out to make room for new bodies at the club. Raul Meireles could be the man to make way with Italy being the most likely to be his new home. Alberto Aquilani the forgotten man at Anfield is also believed to be available after Juventus pulled out of signing the player.

The Liverpool transfer radar is showing no signs of stopping as the club continues negotiations with Ipswich’s Connor Wickham and Arsenal full back Gael Clichy.

Man u have been the biggest money wasters this summer, paying way too much for young and jones. Then again they did dig a deeper hole for themselves by spending. The next Leeds united if you ask me.

i think we will end up paying more than United and even if they do pay more than us at least they buy quality from around the world while we waste our money on Downing, Dann, Wickham and Adam they will probably get Sneijder or Modric to go along with Young who is better than Downing and Jones who we should have got instead of Henderson. It also looks like they will beat us to Mata as well who we should concentrate on instead od Downing

Alright well I understand why we would need downing and kinda why we would need adam but we should seriously be way way way more focused on getting a new left back Clichy would be a good choice or Torresnilo and cover for jamie seeing as this could very well be his last season at anfield and we should consider that carrol was a flop the lad doesn’t wanna play for us we should focus on getting a new high end striker like Fernando Llorente or Gonzalo Higuin evan aldo de nigris who just had a great copa oro and as for the wings we could use Bojan, Juan Mata, jeffren, arron lennen, giovani dos santos, pablo barrera and its my personal opinion that we need a new goal keeper I feel Reina let’s way to many goals get passed him goals other keepers would save I feel our defense for the most part is strong and that’s why they’ve saved him so far but I would say someone like pinedo from honduras or mexican goalys ochoa or corona would make a great addition at anfield mexican players could be a good way to get players for cheap and sell them for more in there later years they’re very under rated but play really well when givin the opportunity looking at the succes of hernandes at man u(I hate them so) its possible we’re over looking many options

So we need a new keeper, this is the keeper who has won the golden glove more times in the last 7 years than any other (3) it could of been 4 he tied with cech in 09/10 but cech had better games plaed ratio, he is a world class keeper, who would you replace him with, keeping in mind not many top keepers would come to a club not in the champions league

I just need to hear that the deals are completed.. Not closing in on a deal. I would say we need a right winger. Lennon or payet would do.

Downing if he requests a transfer which is looking more likely after he refused to sign an extending contract will go to Liverpool for around 20m at least. If your paying 19.5m for Henderson expect to be paying more than that for Downing’s services.

I’m a city fan and whilst im not over awed by these signings the game as we know it has evolved into a squad game now, europa league is a an absolute ball ache and you need a competitive and strong squad to compete nowadays.I think adam could do well at liverpool but i really dont rate downing, think he is over hyped in my opinion.

any way good article jonny lad.

    City one sometime soon fellow

Please get Mata, Downing, Aaron Lennon,
Adam, Shawcross, Clichy and Wickham……Mata can play on wings and can also operate as attacking midfielder…Stevie can play deep and offense too with Mata taking in central midfield position and Lennon too good at right wing….Shawcross is young and talented and can cover Carra in long term….Wickham is a sure future prospect and Clichy can fill the void in left back position and Downing can play on left flank feeding Caroll and Adam and Lucas can provide good balance for the team …..I dont really know why Pool paid so much for an under rated player like Henderson when they had so much options left in the market…Couldhave saved 20 million by retaining Raul Meireless,a good performer and skilled player

Hederson was 5th in the Prem when it comes to creating chances, nuff said. Downing is class on the left-wing very good balance running at pace with the ball and delivers a good cross, Adam has a good passing range and is superb at dead-ball situations……all 3 will vastly improve Liverpool!!!!

Henderson has better stats than Modric, so how is Henderson not a good player?. The day you sign for Liverpool the knives come out!, Henderson will be fantastic for Kenny and will feed our strikers from the right or centre with his crossing ability………nuff said!!!
