REPORTS: Liverpool Closing In On Adam & Downing
Liverpool are set to splash more cash as Damien Comolli looks to step up the clubs efforts to sign players.
The Reds are linked with new players from around the world on a daily basis. The latest news is that Blackpool’s creative wizard Charlie Adam should complete his prolonged transfer deal by the end of this weekend.
Comolli is set to meet with Tangerine chairmen Karl Oyston and thrash a deal of £8 million pounds out for the player that Liverpool tried to sign in January for £12 million.
New Villa boss Alex McLeish could try and hijack the deal. However that remains unlikely as their late offer is believed to be in the region of £6.5 million.
The other major transfer headline coming from Liverpool is that Stewart Downing will use the same tactics he used to leave Middlesbrough by requesting a transfer from his current employers Aston Villa.
Villa have rejected Liverpool’s recent approaches and are holding out for £19 million for the England international.
The recent departure of Ashley Young from the club sees the Villains desperate to hold on to more of their first team players or at the very least receive a high transfer fee for their stars. However these days if a player wants to leave a club then the player usually gets their wishes.
Downing has refused a new contract at the club and has made it clear he wants to join Jordan Henderson at Anfield next season and a transfer request should see a deal forced through.
The Adam’s and Downing deals will see Liverpool with plenty of options in midfield and it is expected that the club will shift some players out to make room for new bodies at the club. Raul Meireles could be the man to make way with Italy being the most likely to be his new home. Alberto Aquilani the forgotten man at Anfield is also believed to be available after Juventus pulled out of signing the player.
The Liverpool transfer radar is showing no signs of stopping as the club continues negotiations with Ipswich’s Connor Wickham and Arsenal full back Gael Clichy.
