Arsenal Transfer News: Left Back Bid Imminent – Two Defenders Targeted – Striker Finally Set To Sign

By on June 26, 2011

Today, has been a bit quiet regarding transfer news, speculation, rumors and gossip surrounding the Gunners. But, the reliable We Are the North Bank, has livened it up with two exciting pieces of news, especially regarding Jose Enrique. There are also some other interesting headlines, so without further ado, here is the Arsenal Transfer News Roundup.

Arsenal Preparing Bid For Jose Enrique

An interesting piece of news which I think will satisfy fellow Gooners. We Are the North Bank, reports that the Gunners are readying a bid to sign Newcastle’s left back, Jose Enrique. Jose Enrique, of course will be a replacement for Gael Clichy, who looks likely to leave the Gunners. Jose Enrique, in my opinion, is a solid left-back who can defend stoutly, as well making excellent forward runs. He’s a more than able replacement, if he joins the Gunners.

Arsenal Want to Sign Two of Three Defenders: Chris Samba, Phil Jagielka, and Gary Cahill

Another fascinating report by We Are the North Bank, who state that the Gunners are trying to sign two of three central defenders in Chris Samba, Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill. The report also states that Wenger prefers to sign Samba and Jagielka, as he and his chief scout believe that Jagielka is the best English centerback at present. This is good news and I’m happy that the Gunners are reportedly looking for a quality central defender. But is Jagielka really the best English centerback at present? What about Smalling, Dawson, Terry, Roger Johnson, Scott Dann, etc.? I even consider Gary Cahill better than Jagielka at present, so I am quite surprised by that assumption. But of course I could be wrong, Jagielka could be a very good signing, especially as he’s obviously highly rated by Wenger himself.

Arsenal Set To Finally Sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

This a is piece of news that I just stumbled upon, as there are reports filtering around the web, suggesting that the Gunners have finally signed Southampton’s starlet, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The fee is reportedly worth around 8 million pounds + add-ons that increases the fee to around 10 million pounds. If this is true, then I believe he’s a good signing, and has a bright future ahead of him.

Nasri Ready to Discuss His Future With The Gunners

Some encouraging news regarding Nasri’s future, as many reports are filtering around, stating that Samir Nasri is willing to have more talks and negotiations about his future with the Gunners. The report also states that Nasri is not only concerned by the wages offered (around 80,000 a week according to the report), but also by what Wenger does in the market and whether the Gunners can challenge for trophies. Hopefully with Wenger returning from his vacation, that Nasri’s contract will be resolved as soon as possible.

What do you think? Is Jose Enrique a suitable replacement for Clichy if he leaves? Who do you prefer for the two centerbacks that Wenger is reportedly willing to sign? Do you think that Chamvberlain is a good signing for the Gunners? What are your thoughts on the Nasri situation? Please share your thoughts and opinions.

Cheers and take care,

hello enrique is the left back i wanted, seen him put walcott, young, nani all in his pocket. i am a fan. strong defender hard worker, good quality going forward and in my opinion a better option than clichy. wont get caught out as much. And to the guy who wrote the article i agree with the scout, jags is the best option, just injurys that worry me. but better than the likes of dawson, who has to be one of the most over rated defenders in the league. that does not mean i think he is poor just not the player the media makes out. jags is also a better player than both samber and cahill. but i would like cahill, think he could grow into an outstanding player. if we get samba i wont be disapointed but he will get exposed at arsenal cause we play high up the pitch and samba turns like a bus. i think kolcheney will grow into a good player, he proformed so well against barca. pace to burn, very competative and did well considering he was playing in the lower division in france a year or so ago. arsenal is a massive step up, plus i think if we shift eboue on kol can cover at right back. also djourou has something to offer i think. i like the guy at ajax to, vengonhen how ever you spell his name. but all good options.. who in there right mind will take squalachi, hoping a french team might take him off the wage bill. plus i hear good things about a young centre half we have. saw him play in some cup games last year, name has escaped me..

Hahaha! Smalling, Dawson, Roger Johnson and Cahill are NOT BETTER than Jagielka. He is the most complete defender out there. Very classy too. The others are lump it and see old school British cloggers in comparison.

I have to say, if the reports turned out to be true (not the Jose Enrique one, he is average) and Arsenal were to sign Jagielka and Samba, then that would be one hell of a partnership in my opinion.

But I cannot see it happening.

Really? I’ve always liked Jagielka, but his injury problems and lack of height concern me, I prefer Samba and Cahill, but if Jagielka can get over his injury problems, he could turn out to be a good signing, but Everton will demand a huge fee for him.

I think Jose Enrique will do alright, he’s done well last season…. he’s an able replacement, though I do prefer Baines.

You make some interesting points mate.

      Cheers and take care,

      Omar

John, I think you are referring to Miquel mate, young Spanish CB. He should get a loan out this season, we also have Kyle Bartley, who did really well at Sheff Utd and Rangers. He may need a premier league loan, if we end up signing CBs this summer.

As for Squillaci, he has been scape goated some what I feel. He did well when 2st in the side, had a dip, then regained his form again. For a 4th choice CB, I dont think he did badly at all. What we should have done was sign Koscilny and Samba last season!

Don’t know if this is true or not but I heard from an accountant for stoke that we were looking at their CB Huth.

Really? Don’t think it’s true, but who knows? I don’t really rate him that much, prefer Samba or Cahill or even Jagielka, if he can stay fit.

      Thanks for sharing.

      Cheers and take care,

jagielka in my opinion is not the type of player arsenal need, he’s too small, injury prone and over rated. the perfect signings would be samba and mertasacker.

If we buying three of them, will need it bcous we have defence broblem in last season but i prefer samba and cahill and mr wenger pls keep semir nasri out of mancester united and let in happy in arsenal

Enrique is quality i would then add samba and dann. Oh and replace sagna aswell he makes far too many mistakes.

    June 27, 2011 at 12:36 am

Nicoman: Sagna is the best RB in the prem, stop being stupid please? Whoever mentioned Mertesacker is also stupid, he’s way too slow and would get murdered playing in as a high a line as Arsenal play.

    • Omar

      June 27, 2011 at 2:15 am

Calm down, please don’t refer to them as “idiots” or stupid”, they’re entitled to their own opinions.

However, besides that, I do agree on the point about Mertesacker, he’s too slow and he was an absolute disaster last season. I am not keen on seeing him as a Gunner.

Sagna is the best RB in the Premier League and one of the best in the world, I definitely don’t want to see him leave.

      Cheers and take care,

      Omar

Enrique would be a good signing but I don’t think we need to to sign 2 centerbacks
Samba or Cahill would be fine for me
Also get that Vertonghen guy as he can give song competition and he extremely versatile being able to play as centreback, left back, defensive mid, and left wing and he is only 24
A poacher would be nice like odemwingie who could add 15-20 goals a season

    • Omar

      June 27, 2011 at 2:25 am

I really like to see Vertongthen as a Gunner, but he is a bit too expensive at 18 million pounds.

On Odemwingie, I’m not too sure about him, he could be either a masterstroke or a flop. I prefer Falcao, Hulk or Benzema. If Wenger signs one of them, then I’ll be happy.

      Cheers and take care,

      Omar

Ok guys here is what we should do: we buy samba and cahill, we sell clichy and move vermaelen to LB which he played at ajax, we buy alvarez, chamberlin, gervinho, etc. And sell the dead weight ( I.e. almunia, squillaci, denilson, bendtner etc.) And we resign Nasri to a long term deal.

  13. Daniel Smith

    June 27, 2011 at 2:59 am

What about Nasri. Selling Nasri to MU ,assuming Feb goes, will weaken the gunners. that is the red faced cunt’s cunning plan. Remember he wanted to go for Adams and Veira.Wenger was smart to ban such sales.
Hopefully if Arsenal have to let Nasri go it would be better if goes to a European team with less money. I know money talks. If Arsenal get the money from the rfc,it will make him even stronger.

As far as I feel wenger will onli sign 1 C b wich I feel is samba to partner verm.nd I hv a feeling clichy will stay. Den iu want a striker like benz or higuain to partner rvp.

I strongly agree regarding Enrique and would PREFER him to Clichy.

  22. Nairobi Gooner

    June 27, 2011 at 9:48 am

Wenger has had a chat with Clichy and asked him to stay, that means the Enrique deal has fallen through.

I generally don’t believe anything from the Spanish media and that goes for the 18 million for Mata, that amount will surely give Wenger a heart attack.

  23. ruelando

    June 27, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Its really frustrating with the amount of players we are link with, i am jus dying for the transfer window to open so that we can have a clearer picture.
Carling Cup was the disaster that lost the team its confidence for the rest of the season. If Ver is ready we jus need one CB which i think will be Samba, we however need a 2 defensive midfielder who are the engine of any team. From what i have seen we need to change our formations for some games its too imple thats why i said two DM And a decent forward

  24. chica smitg

    June 27, 2011 at 3:14 pm

arsene wenger wantin 2 bring in 2 central defenders is a welcm idea, cos arsenal defenders 4 d past 3 to 4 years are nt consistent, i prefer samba 4 his physical nature and gary cahil an english man, jose enrigue will be a good replacement 4 clichy if he finally leaves. Aw should buy a central striker.

He needs to spence money, but the club and Arsene are to tight, I’m sick of arsenal transfer rumours. Cause your always let down.
