The most important thing for me is not who we prefer.Rather, the pertinent question is, will Wenger buy either? Because to be honest with you, in order of preference, I’ll go with the poll but I’ve been around long enough to know that you cannot trust Wenger to offload averages and flopsters within the ranks and bring in quality signings like Samba and Cahill even if he admitted the defence needs tweaking. For me, either will be great, signing Samba is the best news we can have this summer but Cahill will be okay. Neither looks likely though!

Erm, 122 votes in your poll, not really representative of the Gooner population, is it. The only conclusion you can draw from this is that people weren’t really that interested in your poll and/or blog.

I completely realize that, it was a poll that lasted for a short time, which is the reason for the quite low representation.
I didn’t say it meant the majority of ALL Gooners, I apologize if it was implied in that manner.
Cheers and take care,

What a load of $hit.. DONT TRY AND SPEAK FOR US ALL
Cahill (63%, 575 Votes)
Samba (34%, 315 Votes)
Neither (3%, 28 Votes)
Samba over Cahill? ARE YOU ALL MENTAL? Have you seen Samba turn, he’s slower than a passenger ferry.. He is not a good passer of the ball, so please TELL ME.. What more does he have to offer than one of the best central defenders in the country? Samba is not going to solve our defensive problems, good in the air yes, but bloody hell, he is a poor defender. You lot make me laugh, you are the same people that will be calling for Wengers head (again) as he made another poor decision buying Samba come December.. You have no idea….
Samba and his defence let in 7 against Man Utd, REMEMBER THAT?? They were almost relegated.. RIDICULOUS..
Gunner for life

You’re the one who’s being ridiculous. All Gooners are entitled to their own opinions. What makes you think that you know whats best for OUR team??? Wenger tried to sign SAMBA in January NOT Cahill. What do you have to say now???? Your own manager agrees with the poll

Did he sign him though? No! Bloody good job aswell.. If we get him, I guarantee I will be seeing you back here by December MOANING that we bought him. The masses of Season Ticket holders and REAL FANS that we speak to day in day out, DO NOT WANT SAMBA… He is mediocre at best!

Your right, Samba can’t turn. Oh dear, what a disadvantage for a centre back. However will he be able to do those all important Cruyff turns in the box.
Jesus, some ppl are clueless.
John
June 29, 2011 at 5:50 pm
clueless? So a forward running at you beats you for pace, you just gonna stand there or turn and run after them? Samba cant run.. YOU DO THE MATHS which of the other top 5 teams in prem wanted SAMBA? NONE, what about cahill? 3? dopes
John
June 29, 2011 at 5:55 pm
@clintm15 if anyone is clueless here its you pal.. I will bet you mosy I will see you here in the comments by december should we decide to bring in Samba complaining that we should never have bought him..
Sick of the two bob arsenal fans piping up jumping on the bandwagon screaming we should be buying defenders from clubs that just battled relegation and thinking he will be our SAVIOUR. You are wrong, you are being a sheep and agreeing with what everyone else is saying.. HE IS CRAP
He will be a liability, not the standard we should be going for..
You will see in time..

I see your point, but you really need to calm down. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Your poll results, in comparison with many others show that Gooners are divided in their opinion over Samba or Cahill.
Samba and Cahill are good defenders, either one of them will be a good signing for the Gunners.
I get your opinion, but express it calmly….we see your point.
Cheers and take care,
Omar

June 29, 2011 at 3:01 pm
i agree totally !!! and make koscielny part of the deal as loan to Bolton with 9m cash !
Although Jagielka is not needed….buying Samba and Cahill will be grt !!!
Imagine the defence as :-
Sagna(RB)
Samba(CB)
Cahill(CB)
Vermaelen(LB)

Typical Arsenal fans, always looking for a reason to complain. You’ve been banging on about Cahill all of last season and then the second you are close to signing him you start saying you shouldn’t be signing him you should be signing someone else.

I cannot understand Gooners like George, above, calling for Vermaelen to be played at LB! We have enough square pegs playing in round holes and sure while he did an EMERGENCY job there for Ajax, he is a quality centre-half. Additionally, centre-halves love playing in that position and will get unhappy being shifted to a full-back berth.
I don’t like Wenger’s stubborness and not listening to the fans, but I hope, in this respect, he does not even acknowledge these ludricrous claims about moving Vermaelen into the left back position.

Chris samba is what arsenal needs.we have vermaeleen who is just the same as cahil
John
June 29, 2011 at 5:59 pm
Vermaelen another one??? WELL I WOULD HAVE A FULL BACK LINE OF VERMINATORS… He is possibly one of wengers best ever defensive purchases, if it wasn’t for his injury I am absolutely sure he’d be captain material when cesc goes.. We could do with a few more TV’s SO BRING THAT ON!!

I can bet you 99% of these people have never watched 90mins of a Blackburn or Bolton game that didn’t have Arsenal in it and all of a sudden now everyone’s a judge about who Arsenal need Cahill or Samba..

The “beaks” of those “wolves” on the Board of Arsenal FC must be flooding with saliva right now – in anticipation of feasting on proceeds from the auctioning of Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri etc. By 31st August 2011, Mr. Arsene “the- profit-maker” Wenger will have more than enough for them to “eat”. He is typically recruiting more kids – Carl Jenkinson, Oxylade Chamberlain etc to groom and sell (again) when they peak in 2014. What a “brilliant” manager and “ambitious” Board! Mean time, the likes of Nasri, Fabregas and Clichy will have improved trophy prospects at their respective new clubs. What is Robin Van Persie (running out of time for trophies) waiting for?
