Transfer Special: Arsenal Transfer Dealings Assessed

By on July 4, 2011

We’re continuing with our summer feature here on Two Liverpool Fans and today we’re looking at the important transfer news involving Arsenal.

First Topic: Keeping Fabregas

It’s fair to say that Arsene Wenger has already frustrated his captain on many occasions thanks to his reluctance to sell his star man. The problem with them keeping Fabregas is that his heart and sole wouldn’t be into the game. He wants the Barcelona move and it is clear for all to see. And well, the problem with selling Fabregas? It’s not having Fabregas in your team.

Wonderful vision, brilliant passing execution, along with his ability to be a gamechanger with a goal here and there. The club’s captain, and selling Fabregas would almost definitely trigger the other players following the Spaniard out of London in the summer. It’s fair to say that Arsene Wenger has already played his aces and that it is only a matter of time before the Spaniard goes.

VOdds

I personally think that he’s going this summer.

Second Topic: Keeping Nasri

Another key man who is keen on leaving Arsenal for greener pastures elsewhere in the summer. Perhaps Arsenal’s star man of the season in light of Fabregas’ absence through injury for large periods of time. Manchester United and Manchester City are both interested in bringing the Frenchman to Manchester in the summer.

A wonderful left winger, Arsenal would struggle to replace him with another in time for next season. Do I think he is leaving in the summer? I personally think that this move will eventually not follow through (at least for this summer) and Arsene Wenger will try and keep him at least until the January transfer window.

Besides, remember when he said he wanted to be on pay parity with Fabregas if he won the Premier League player of the year award? Well, he didn’t, so I really don’t see how he really has any right to argue with Arsenal over his current contract situation.

Third Topic: Replacing Clichy

Talking about contract rebels, they don’t come much bigger than Gael Clichy, who seems destined to leave Arsenal in the summer. So the question now is who should replace the man. Among the left backs that Arsenal are interested in include Celtic defender Izaguirre and Jose Enrique.

I think that Arsenal should go ahead and sign Newcastle defender Enrique simply because his playing style does have some resemblance to that of Clichy’s game, moving forward and spreading the ball around. Along with that, he’s quality with the cross and his tackling is pretty decent as well. There really is a reason why many clubs are chasing after him.

Fourth Topic: Splashing The Cash

Arsenal have lots of money in the bank as of now, and they look like they’re going to sell Nasri and/or Fabregas sometime soon, so I have put together a small list of players who Arsenal should at least consider buying with their money.

  • David Villa (Barcelona are unsure over keeping him beyond this summer)
  • Yoann Gourcuff (dismal season, but still a quality midfielder, and he would come cheap)
  • Diego Ribas (another one who has had a dismal season, but he would fit right in at Arsenal)
  • Jan Vertonghen (a good solid defender, he has even played alongside Vermaelen on many occasions)
  • Eden Hazard (if Nasri leaves in the summer)

We currently have 6 players that can play left back after Clichy leaves. Vermaelen, Belgium’s first choice left back. England International Kieran Gibbs, French U21 International Traore, Spanish u20 International Miquel, plus Botelho and Koscielny.

We dont need to look to far to replace Nasri on the left wing as Gervinho (if he signs) and Arshain are more than capable.

Cesc, is a different case, he cannot be replaced directly. However, we have players like Wilshire, Ramsey, Lansbury and even Arshavin or Van Persie that could move into the role behind the striker.

As for splashing the cash, when Clichy signs for City today that will leave us with a squad of 25 players (not including Gervinho) classed as homegrown or foreign. So until some more leave do not expect any cash to be splashed. It will be one out, one in after Clichy goes. With the first being Nasri out, Gervinho in.

Good, post glad to see a post that doesn’t signify doom and gloom on Arsenal, personally I would get Fabragas and Nasri in the same room and say to them if one of you leave they other has to stay (seeing that Nasri has 12months left as a club we will sell Nasri), but tell them both to talk it over and come to a decision they are both friends and its obvious Fabragas has been desperate to go for some time(its a bit of an nasty thing to do but hey they are holding the club to ransom so the club will need to play the game as well) but that’s just me.

If they both go I would take a huge dislike to Nasri for being hugely ungrateful for treating a club like Arsenal (who has made him what he is to day and stood by him when he broke his leg and nursed him back to health) only for him to say thanks im gonna screw you over and play for your main rival! Its likely though that with that attitude he’s probably been the one causing negative problems in the dressing room.

One more point, Clichy’s form has been in decline for some years now – its best we got shot of him now! Good luck to him though hes been a good player for us early in his career!

    Hi Gooners,

I believe all of Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy shouldbe sold coz their heart have started beating for other clubs. Sell also Bendtner, Eboue and Rosicky. Buy Hazard, Villa, Vortenghen, Cahil or Samba and Lukaku.

    Best of luck gooners

in a realistic world my ideal transfer window would be…
we must keep nasri i think, it would be a huge blow and as much as he hasnt committed yet, losing him would confirm us as a selling club and i cant deal with that… plus i would hate to see his qualities elsewhere, especially so close to home.
    so…
    OUT:
    denilson
    almunia
    squid
    bendy
    traore
eboue (think hes good for spirit though)
    rosicky
    vela

obviously im not too pleased about Fabtastic leaving, the time has come and hes been a wonderful servant, a top, top player and our building a team around him hasnt quite worked. clichy on the other hand can go with our blessing, and his performances have slipped badly last couple of seasons, and seems to have forgotten the offside trap

    IN:
    Samba
    Vertonghen
    Gervinho
Ahmedov looks likely i would say, as does Alvarez, both would be excellent squad players and in a few months i would hope first teamers.
oxlade chamberlain also i would suggest would come in.

I think this would be an awesome transfer window, the best we have had for a very long time, and my fingers are crossed and unlike the rest of the world, i am genuinely excited. please god, dont fail me now. peace boys…

First of all you can’t put V.Persie on the bench he one of our best players and last half of the season he was on fire and you can’t get rid of Vermaelen he our best defender him and sagna. Try to keep Nasri he’s a quality player. Sell Eboue, Bendtner, Denilson, Fabregas, Diaby, Squillachi, Djourou, Vela. Bring in Samba,Vertonghen, Hazard, Given, Benzema, Gervinho, Alvarez and maybe another GK.

I appear to have wandered into the special needs section of gooners supporters,it must have seen it wrong but did someone put denilson in their preferred team, and at the back to,just when i thought i’ve seen it all some other muppet wants to sell 50 players and buy 60 in and put RVP on the bench, please go and support the spuds we really don’t need that type of ‘fan’.
