BREAKING NEWS: City Officially Sign Clichy From Arsenal

By on July 4, 2011

Manchester City have concluded the signing of Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy.

The Frenchman passed a medical in the Manchester area this morning and has now ut pen to paper on a four-year-deal, with the fee thought to be in the region of £7m.

Clichy ends an 8-year stint with the Gunners and he was one of their longest serving players. City have confirmed the deal on their official website with Clichy saying:

“I can’t wait to get started and I think anything is possible with this team.”

Clichy also revealed that in joining the Blues, he will be re-joining two of his best friends in football.

“When I first came to England, it was Kolo Toure and Patrick Vieira who took me under their wing and really looked after me,” he said.

“Kolo would pick me up and drop me at home and his wife used to cook meals for me. Patrick was always there to offer me advice so it’s wonderful to be back and at the same club they are at.”

So why did Wenger tell us about a week ago that he was doing everything to negotiate a new contract for Gael Clichy and keep him at the club; does it now mean that he has lost his authority with the players when he couldn’t even convince Clichy the least of all those agitating for a move to stay at the club? I am very worried about our manager now!

OnDGooner – If he said anything else the price would’ve been lower. This ain’t football manager mate, we’re talking millions here and Wenger wanted to get the most money he could.

So long Mr Clichy. You weren’t half bad.

I am more worried if either of our best creative players were to leave. Sami Nasri and Fab are so valuable to us. It will be so sad breaking the TheoVaNasriGas strike force.

Wenger the coward won’t replace Clichy. Look forward to watching us rely on injury-prone Gibbs and playing Eboué at left back.

    GET OUT WENGER!!!

If wenger allows Cesc and Nasri to go on top, replacing them with worse players then yeh i agree.

I’m really worried over the sale of Gael Clichy. He was never really a bad player as most fans thought, and the most disturbing part of it now is who is going to fill the gap- is it Gibbs? It will really b a joke, cos he can’t fill the gap, at least not the coming season. Wenger should go into the mrkt and buy players, we are tied of this policy that is not yeilding the desired results, at least not 4 the fans.

Some of the people who write in must have been in the AKB brigade ove the lasst years ,these people made it very difficult for the rest of us to get their points across , accusing anyone that was not a AKB of disloyalty in fact a sfar a sthew AKB we were traitors, they know who they are , this situation at Arsenal has been coming for 4/5 years now and anyone until this year voiced a anti Wenger opinion got slaughtered.
We get fed bullshit , 5 year plan, 10 year plan, have trust, this his best ever team, he cant buy till City , United,Chelsea have bought , we lose Cole get Gallas, look at the players he gets in , but worse than that is not the players that wear our colours its the time he takes to realise they are rubbish , how many games has less than average players like Denilson, Almunia,Diaby,Bendtner, Eboue,Squillaci, how long does it take to judge a player ,well I can tell you this you dont need to work for a football club to pick up who can play o and who goes through the motions, all this rubbish ‘he does well off the ball ‘ its crap you play football when you have the ball , thats when you can show what you can do.
Wenger wont just go , he will be like the last days of the Roman empire , emirates will be burning and he will be like Nero still fiddling.

Sad to see you go Clichy. Sayonara and Godspeed to you. Lets hope Gibbs can deliver the goods, coz its a pipe dream to think of any other replacement from Wenger.

any player leaves arsenal so far never had great career after that…exm..henry, hleb, flamini, adebayor, fredie ludjunberg, pires, even vieara…are any of these guys got any personnel award..i think no and never….
If cesc leave for barca, i sure he will end up in bench on only..mark my word. Nasri..just played 6month great football, already want big salary and award..bullshit…if you are player want award, you will work hard to win with arsenal, not running out to winning club to share their medal. shame…just 23year old…dont have confident on your self to help you current team. bladyshit..Nasri game would not match with Alex ferg…will end up as bechkam..throw a shoe….clichy …i dont have to say..he move for money..not for kolo wife’s cooking.
