Wenger Lines Up Move For Liverpool Target To Replace Clichy

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining up a move for Newcastle’s Jose Enrique as a replacement for Gael Clichy, according to reports.

The London Evening Standard reports that Arsenal are set to go head-to-head with Liverpool over the signing of the 25-year old.

The Spaniard endured a difficult first season with Newcastle, struggling to adapt to the Premiership and English life. And it wasn’t until the Magpies relegation to the Championship that the fullback starting to produce the form the Toon army expected on his arrival from La Liga.

The former Villarreal man continued his excellent form in the Premiership, resulting in speculation linking the attacking defender with moves to Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is desperate to recruit a left back this summer and after failing to sign Clichy, Dalglish will turn his attention to Enrique.
