Arsenal Transfer News: £24m Striker Linked | Denilson Off? | Cahill Latest

By on July 7, 2011

This has been an interesting few days regarding transfer news, gossip, speculation and rumors surrounding the Gunners. There is a lot of interesting and exciting news, especially regarding the imminent signing of Gervinho. Without further ado, here is the Arsenal Transfer News Roundup.

Gervinho Having A Medical

It looks like this saga is finally reaching its conclusion, as it has been reported by many that Gervinho has undergone a medical, ahead of his imminent move to the Gunners.  Some reports are now stating that the transfer will be made official on Friday, after a hitch in the paperwork. Hopefully, this is just a small bump and that the transfer will be made official very soon.

Arsenal Given A Deadline To Sign Cahill

According to a report by, Bolton Wanderers have told the Gunners that they have ten days to finalize the transfer of Gary Cahill. Arsenal, according to the report, have offered around 15 million pounds plus Carlos Vela and Henri Lansbury. But Bolton, want a straight-forward offer of 17 million pounds, which is Cahill’s release clause. Honestly, I believe that 17 million pounds is pricey and definitely not how much Gary Cahill is truly worth. Simply though, if Wenger is serious about signing him up, then he must pay up.

Arsenal Interested In Signing Lavezzi

There are reports in the Italian press, that state that Wenger is interested in signing Napoli star and Argentina international striker, Ezequiel Lavezzi. They also state that Wenger is willing to pay up to £24m to acquire his services. I am a big fan of Ezequiel Lavezzi, yes he didn’t make a good impression in the match vs Bolivia, but he is a quality player. Lavezzi is an excellent dribbler, has good pace, very tricky, strong and creative. He would be an excellent signing for the Gunners, but Napoli are keen on holding on to him and I doubt that they’ll let him go this summer.

Check out this short video of Lavezzi, displaying his talents:

Arsenal Miss Out On Alvarez

It’s now official and confirmed that Arsenal have missed out on Velez Sarsfield’s Ricardo Alvarez, who will sign for Inter Milan in a deal worth around 10.6 million pounds. It was looking likely that the Gunners were the closest to acquiring Ricardo Alvarez, but the Italian giants stepped in and got him instead. In my opinion, Alvarez is a talented player, but he’s still unproven and I don’t think we should be dwelling too much on this missed transfer.

Villareal Interested In Signing Denilson

According to the Daily Mirror, Spanish side Villareal are interested in signing want-away Brazilian midfielder, Denilson. Denilson, who’s been heavily criticized by fellow Gooners including myself, is looking for a move away from the Gunners and Villareal have offered him that chance. Villareal, according to the report, see Denilson as a long-term replacement for Marcos Senna. To be honest, I really hope that this true and that Denilson will finally leave, not only for the sake of us Gooners, but for his sake as well…. he needs a fresh start.

What do you think? Are you excited about the imminent arrival of Gervinho? Do you think that the Gunners should pay up to sign Gary Cahill? Would you like to see Ezequiel Lavezzi as a Gunner? Do you think that Denilson should leave the Gunners? What do you think on the Gunners missing out on Ricardo Alvarez?

Please share your thoughts and opinions.

Cheers and take care,

Omar –

We take too long to get things done to bring in the right players then say we tried but failed. It’s not good enough for a big club to do their business this way. How would the club like it if all those season tickets weren’t payed for on time and we took as long as they do to sort things out. I’m not feeling positive or happy.

I think arsene wenger should hasten up the purchase of gervinho, cahill,Lavezi,Enrique cos they wl b a very good addition to the team seeing that one of either cesc or nasri may be leaving emirates this season. If arsene can make these purchase plus one additional midfielder i thnk wl shall do smthing next seasön. Pls we should remain positive twards the team cos our support counts alot.thanks to all arsenal family.

Am fed up cos d board themselves is not encouragin dat is why arsene is misbehaving, at dsame tyme is makin we d fans 2 have heart ache, which is not good..i don’t blame nasri & fabre-pass cos thev’ tried their best, i personaly want them 2 leave cos is not their fault..

If the rumor isn’t about a defender, then I don’t want to hear about it. Frankly we need 2 or even 3 quality (tall) defenders to add depth and give us a chance to rest and rotate players so we can cut down on injuries. And if there are injuries, we need good choices to bring off the bench.

it unbelieveable dat wenger wants a good player but wont give cash in all, i suggest dat if it how it works, we should add wenger plus 18million pounds for real madrid coach moriho, since dat it how wenger works

Frankly speaking Wenger must do harry in signing Cahill,Mota, chambalin, Lavez or Benzema then we may have wonderful season despite the nasri and cesc depature as far as we already have Gevinho

I can’t beleive someone having problem and refussing to address it, what i dont understand is what is stoping Wenger from spending on good players, Now EPL is morethan buying 17years player old at rate of 1mp.

How long does it take for Arsene Wenger to sign Gervinho, or any player for that matter? Aw “signed” Ricardo Alvarez for several weeks before Inter Milan nabbed the player. The irreversably ailing AW is now over-ripe for the “dose” Roman Abramovic administers upon Chelsea’s sick managers. But the greedy, crockdile-skinned Board of arsenal FC are not about to part with AW – their “commission agent”. In Arsene We Trusted.

If Gervinho starts SCORING goals or makes assists
it would go down well with the fans. The thing is he must be consisitent unlike Chamakh who shone in the first half of the season only to dade in the latter half.

Sell: Arshavin, Bendtner, Denilson, Squillaci, Fabregas, Chamakh, Almunia, Fabianski,Rosicky (and maybe Diaby according to what kind of back up is afforded by buys)

    Squad: (+ potential buys)
    Szecnzny, Mannone
Sagna, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Djourou, Cahill, Samba, Koscielny. (strategy should be either to buy another left back or convert Koscienly/Vermaelen (?))
Walcott, Chamberlain, Wilshere, Song, Ramsey, Nasri (who we cant loose), Miyachi, Mata, Diaby (?), and possibly another defensive mid/Eastmont
    Van Persie, Gervinho, Benzema/Lavezzi, Vela

Wenger should step down next season if we don’t win any trophy becouse his philosophy of grooming young talent made him to loose forcus only to sell talented players. shd buy big names
Wenger is money minded that’s why he’s not putting up strong resistance on Fab n Nasri Leaving instead looks arround for good players only to be taken by other serious clubs who know what they want. Wenger has reached his peak of coaching big clubs, will Arsenal regain winning mentality at this stage?
