Charlie Adam Ready To Make An Impression But Faces Big Test

Charlie Adam is Liverpool’s £9million new boy who will want to make a big impression for one of the biggest clubs in English football.

The former Blackpool star is on a £50,000 a week deal and will be relishing the opportunity to prove his worth to the Kop come the new season. He said:

‘I’m delighted to be able to walk out on the same pitch as some of the players here. There are good players at the club – top top players who I want to learn from. I want to become a better player and hopefully bring something to the team.’

Adam will add to the sizeable amount of midfielders at Anfield an will be competing with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Leiva Lucas for a place in the team.

There has been a long lasting debate over having Frank Lampard and Gerrard in the same England line up is a working formula due to their similar styles of play. Now it is likely that Liverpool fans will be worried about the same thing between Adam and Gerrard.

Both players like to make ambitious long passes and both like to take nearly all of the set pieces for their club. This will surely result in some stiff competition and may even cause arguments among team mates on the pitch.

However since the absence of Spanish international Xabi Alonso, Liverpool have not looked the same threat they were. While not quite as rated as Alonso, Adam could bring in the extra oomph the team needs to make a decent challenge for silverware in the forthcoming season.

Red’s manager Kenny Dalglish was delighted with the capture of Adam and so should be a key asset for the team in the 2011/2012 campaign. Dalglish said:

‘We’re delighted our patience has paid off.

‘We tried to sign Charlie in January. Blackpool wanted to keep him, which is understandable because they were trying to maintain their status in the Premier League.

‘We’re looking forward to Charlie being a success here. He made a huge contribution to Blackpool’s team last year and we’re looking forward to him making the same contribution here. We know what he’s got and that’s why he was such a success last year in the Premier League.’

It will certainly be a test for the Scot to step up to the challenge of becoming a consistent member in Liverpool’s first 11 and even more so to make his presence felt the Premier League.
