Chelsea In Pole Position As Redknapp Rules Spurs Out Of Parker Chase

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has played down speculation linking the club with West Ham’s Scott Parker, leaving Chelsea and Aston Villa to battle it out for his signature.

Parker is expected to leave Upton Park this summer following the clubs relegation to the Championship. The Hammers are also receptive to a loan move for the England international which would see Parker return if the club made an immediate return to the Premiership.

However, Aston Villa are lining up a £7million move for the former Charlton midfielder with reports suggesting Chelsea are interested in re-signing the player as a replacement for the injured Michael Essien. But Redknapp doubts if the Tottenham will sanction such an expensive purchase for a 30-year old.

“If you take into account the fee of around £8m, signing on fees and wages you’re talking about a £30m deal,” Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror.

“There is no way the club would sanction a deal for a 30-year-old who would have no resale value at the end of his contract.”
