TRANSFER NEWS: Liverpool Close To £9m Capture Of Arsenal Target

By on July 19, 2011

Aly Cissokho, Lyon’s 23 year-old left-back, is edging closer to leaving Ligue 1 and moving to England with Liverpool, according to reports.

Liverpool had been in the running for Arsenal’s Gael Clichy, but having missed out to Manchester City, they have continued to look for a left back, which has proved a problem position since the disaster signing of Paul Konchesky. Fabio Aurelio is a talented player, but is very often a sufferer of injuries, and the £9m million capture of the promising Cissokho would certainly strengthen the defence.

Arsenal have been linked to Cissokho in the past, and possibly may still be interested in a left back considering the departure of their first choice, Clichy, however, it seems Arsenal have in fact set their sights on a move for Newcastle’s Spaniard, Jose Enrique.

Cissokho has made a total of 75 appearances for Lyon over a period of two seasons, and scored 2 goals, while earning one appearance for his country. His contract at the French side runs out in 2014 having signed a five year contract in 2009 after joining from FC Porto.

Lyon are prepared to sell their left back, and have a replacement lined up it seems, as they have taken a keen interest in Benoit Tremoulinas of Bordeaux.

What I cant understand is why Lyon is willing to sell him for a loss. He has improved, performed well, still young and still has a long contract.

How many time will arsene say it. We are not buying any left back this season. How is cissokho an arsenal target when we not interested in him. Please move to another story if you don’t have anything to write about
