REPORTS: Spurs Blocking Arsenal’s Bid To Sign Juan Mata

By on July 27, 2011

Some very interesting news coming from Spain today, as newspaper Marca are claiming Arsenal are on the verge of signing Valencia’s Juan Mata.

Marca claim the deal is in place but two rival bids, one believed to be from Tottenham, are holding up the transfer as the  players representitives weight up all the offers on the table.

The article can be found here, but this is an extract taken using Google translator so apologies if it doesn’t read well:

“Juan Mata is very close to being Arsenal. If the transaction has not closed definitely still is because other two English clubs, one of which Tottenham have submitted in recent days pathways offers that are interesting enough for the player’s father, then a representative, is analyzing all the pros and cons of each.”

It has been suggested that if Mata does join the Gunners he will be a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who is still odds-on to join Barcelona this summer. Mata would most likely take up a position on the left flank with Samir Nasri taking Fabregas’s role in the middle.

Haha ‘or training in Essex’ like Essex is some sort of bad place. Grow up. Have you actually SEEN the Spurs new training in facility which will be ready at the end of the year?? IT’ll be the best in Europe. Fact.
60,000 people who are quiet as a mouse, or 35,000 who rock the house every week.
Would be a good signing for either team but I’d imaging being a Spanish boy he’d want to hold out for Barca or Real next season.

Why would he want to sign on at the immigrants for a bunch of trophyless mugs who refuse to spend money and whose motto is ‘ next season ‘ . You can poke your ‘ state of the art stadium ‘ cos since you’ve been in it you’ve won f#ck all , charge ridiculous prices for the privelage ( gone up 6% again for next season ) & have started to get turned over on your own patch by your north london rivals . Jeremy ( great name by the way ) YOU are a bellwipe my son

Shutup, Fact of the matter is that Arsenal is better than Tottenham and will ALWAYS be better than you spur fans. We will always win trophies. Fact. You guys get excited over your micky mouse cup, I dont mind. Arsenal will always tango with the Big boys whilst totenham will always flirt with the mid table.

Is it the same mata that refuted reports that he will not b going anywhere? If his agent is using this speculation as means to request for increase in wages then it will b a futile attempt if none of the club comes through wit their bids. Mata is a tempting proposition with d ability to play across the final third but I see him moving within spain not to england

Are you Is it wishful thinking that these players you mention will leave Arsenal. Eboue has apparently agreed terms with Galatasary but as for the others no one has actually come in for them because they know they are rubbish & won’t spend money of them, whereas Wenger will spend money on useless players.

      Mata is a winger dipstick..

The reason Tottenham have come in for him is because Wenger is dithering instead of making an out and out offer when he first became interested in the player so obviously now he has a choice of possible CL games or Europa leage games with Tottenham. Wenger should just go ahead and buy him whether or not Fabregas goes or stays

No way is Mata able to play in Cesc’s way with him being a winger and Nasri couldn’t play in Cesc’s role either, regardless of how much Nasri thinks he can and wants to. Nasri hasn’t the same vision, hiss passing is not as accurate and he can’t hold the ball. Anyone doubting this should check out the assist ratio of Nasri in each of the competitions, don’t make the mistake of seeing the overall total assists. Some of them are from Mickey Mouse competions like the Worthington Cup. Jack Wilshere or Aaron Ramsey can both slot in the Cesc role effortlessly and it will be one of these.
