Wenger – This Waiting Game Is Killing Arsenal…

By on July 28, 2011

Life is not what you would have expected it to be at the Grove, and it is definitely not what a Gooner wanted it to be with a little more than a month left for the transfer window to close.

I know Gazidis came out and said a few things regarding Wenger in the last AST meeting. He said that Wenger knows the problem, and that he knows what is wrong and what to do. Well, that was a pile of bull and quite frankly it was pathetic to see someone at the top level of the Arsenal hierarchy say this.

A simple stat that shows what Arsenal’s Achilles heel is the number of goals conceded in a season. I have always highlighted this fact in my posts and again I will do the same thing. 41 goals 2 seasons ago, and last season 43. In our last 10 game we won twice and lose thrice whilst drawing 5 games. And this was supposedly the crucial run in. Wenger promises a ‘busy’ transfer market, and we sign 2 players – Carl Jenkinson and Gervinho.

The defense is not adhered too. Has the club forgotten the reason for our downfall every season? I honestly expected a new defender to be signed in early. That way he could be given ample time in pre-season and to adjust. I don’t want another Squillaci, and I am sure neither do you. So you understand my concern don’t you?

The club set supports hearts alight when the manager claimed that Benzema in an Arsenal jersey is ‘not impossible.’ Quite conveniently it was before the dead-line day as far as ticket renewals were concerned. Everybody is excited and goes and renews their tickets. Mission accomplished!

I am geared up and ready for the news of Fabregas’ imminent departure to Spain. It took me a few weeks, but now I am ready. There are a few reports that Mata is signing for us. Well, that just makes Cesc leaving even more likely.

Wenger recently commented that he is looking for a defender. Right in the middle of the media reporting that we are bidding £20m for Jagielka. If you put them side by side, it makes no sense at all.

We have a few weeks till the season starts and a few more till the window closes. Let’s ‘hope’ there will be some movement in the Arsenal transfer market. Because if it remains the way it is, we are royally F*CKED when August 13 arrives…

‘Hope’- that’s our best defense, HOPE

Guns-out,

    Stop whingeing and whining.

If we haven’t addressed the problems when the season starts then, by all means, have a moan. Right now, the transfer activity is just getting started so show some patience.

What is bullcrap is calling Arsene a fool for not buying every player the media claims he is interested in, or mistaking a lack of media gossip as a sign of inactivity on part of Arsene. You are a bitch for the media’s fiction and sensationalism.

Arsene’s Arsenal is the only Arsenal worthy of support. To put it differently, support of Wengerism is justified, where support of Arsenal is petty tribalism.

Do you realise what you’re saying ? You’re putting the manager on a pedestal. Making the man bigger than the club. You A.K.B.’s really have some kind of mental problem. You’re so blinded by your adoration of him, that you’ll probably throw yourselves off a cliff when the time comes that he’s no longer here. Get a grip, and some kind of perspective. It’s really pathetic this idol worship of yours.

can u pliz give me 1 valid reason why u trust him. please dont tell me about wat he did 7 years ago or about champions league football every season coz 1) qualification to the champions league shouldnt be where we set our sights and 2) going to the CL means nothing if its always a given that we never win it. i just need 1 valid reason as to why u still trust him

Well, now that you’re ready for Fabregas’ departure, somebody should inform Wenger so that Fabregas can be sold. The world has been waiting on you on this matter, such is your great influence at the world’s seventh-largest sporting franchise.

You must really think Arsenal fans are idiots (apart from from you, of course)if you believe that we’ve renewed our season tickets on the basis of Wenger’s “Benzema signing is not impossible” comment. Give us some credit and be patient. There will be plenty of time to whinge and criticise if things go the way of your pessimistic forecast!!

Something tells me that you won’t be one of the “whingers and critics”. No doubt you’ll find some way to put a spin on it, so Wenger comes out of it as blameless.
And what in the article, did the writer get wrong ? It’s pretty much spot on.

All very very silly. And we have bought a defender in jenkinson but perhaps you think he doesn’t count because he is not a superstar – yet.

Its not impossible… that Arsenal will win three PL’s in a row, that Arsenal wait 20 years to win their next trophy, that the Queen will live to 104, that England will win the next world cup, that Scotland win the next world cup, that people will wise up to media bullsh.t

I think this article shows exactly what I think.
Yes Arsenal fans are fooled by the board, unfortunately!
Yes we need a top rock solid defender NOW!
Yes Arsene could have done his market earlier as money is there, in order to prepare the defense to work altogether, .. and maybe save less money on a deal but ensure a bit more success and understanding btween the players.
I mean it’s not untrue to say that we remain in the dark, we .. fans… other teams have already set their target and gone for them… we stand in a situation where you don’t even kow if the team will actually get reinforced.
    Peace

Then fu@* off and don’t be an Arsenal fan. Nobody force you to support Arsenal.

Go to Man City and support Mancini(38 Mil pounds man). There is always a reason for a manager not to buy star players.

    1) Do you know that good players asked
for a cut of the transfer fee?

    2) Good players demand 150K pounds a
    week salary?

    3) Do you know that their agent asked
    for millions in commission?

    4) Do you know that star players demand
15 increase in salary evey year
    excluding all other benefits like
10K for an assist and 20K for a goal
    score?

    5) Most importantly, the club do not
want to sell their star players?

I like Wenger. I like the style of football he wants his team to play. He deserves respect. Yes we need a more physical defense and we need a captain with as much character as Wenger himself. The last decent captain with character we had was Tony Adams and that includes “want away” Vieira.
I cannot recall any of Wenger’s Arsenal players leaving the club and doing particularly well elsewhere. So Senor Fabregas et Monsieur Nasri, you might do well in chatting to some ex Arsenal team mates before you make the jump; the grass is not always greener on the other side…… Of course you can always do an Adebyor and become a mercenary but see where that got him!

If Cesc does not re-think, give up his love for Barca and fully commit to AFC, then he has to go before the season starts. He will only be a liability to us.
AFC will spring a few surprises before the season start, lets hope we think they are all good ones.
AFC for the quad this season.

rickygunners@12;45 – Welcome to the real world of football finance.Yes, Wenger has to compete with all that you stated. But he’s not the ONLY one who has to contend with all that.ALL managers have to.In order to stay competitive, you can’t work in isolation. This is the reality.
Greed rules nowdays. But you have to find a way of dealing with it, within the system. Wenger prefers to work in a market of his own. The flea market. He expects to get world class talent on the cheap. It doesn’t work like that anymore.
Samba is available for 12 million. Not a lot. We can afford that. Pay it. He’s ours. Simple. We’re supposed to be showing INTENT and ambition, remember !

You’re comments are a joke and you clearly don’t actually ‘support’ Arsenal. Wenger is the best, most successful manager we have ever had and what he has done for the club is incredible and you are a fool if you don’t recognise that. Vermaelan was a quality signing and we were unlucky to not have him for the entire season last year. Djourou is also a quality centre half and we lost him the year before. Perhaps buying Samba last January may have won us the league as the majority of the goals we conceded were from set plays but we were extremely close last year. Once we were out of the race we had nothing to play for and finishing fourth although a mistake was not an accurate reflection for the season as a whole. The papers wrote us off last year and said we would be lucky to finish 6th behind Liverpool. And they are foolishly doing the same again now. Well mark my words you fickle, glory hunting scumbag….we will win a major trophy this year and like the rest of the clichy’s of this world you will regret jumping ship to support some other team or manager like man shitty and mancini. Wenger is a great manager working under extremely difficult circumstances with the emergence of these nouveau riche clubs and how they have changed the transfer market but I have faith in him to dominate this league again and europe for that matter. Ramsey, Wilshere, Walcott, Sagna, Gibbs, RVP, Arshavin, Gerbinho, Vermaelan, Djourou, Koscielny, Scecezny not to mention Nasri, Fabregas and maybe Mata, Cahill, Jagielka or Samba….if you don’t recognise that as a serious team with a serious chance of silverware you’re an idiot…Infact you are an idiot. Idiot.

Gunnerfresh – So supporting Arsenal is conditional on supporting Wenger is it ? Strange, I don’t recall seeing that stated in the matchday program.
And I would suggest the idiot is Wenger. Who failed to sign a centreback as backup for Vermaelen ? Who failed to sign a backup for Van Persie when he got injured last season ? (Or was it the one before) ? After all – no-one ever thought he’d get injured, did they ? And who placed their faith in Almunia – great judgment there !

Why do you insist on writing the same negative comments on other peoples pro-arsenal responses. Are you a footballing guru that you know exactly what arsenal need and how much we should be spending. I’m sure those years of football manager have moulded you into the next Mourinho. Samba is undoubtedly a great defender. He has done very well for Blackburn and it may be time for him to step up to a higher level. However bare in mind, Squillaci was a very good defender before he came to Arsenal. It isn’t easy to say ‘buy this player and your defence will concede 10 goals less a season’ that is why you have scouts watching every minute of every game of a target to ensure they have the best possible chance to succeed at the club. But once again, I’m sure the success and development of the player in FM is enough justification for you to make a purchase.

    • Spectrum

      July 28, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Mike – Don’t need to be a “football guru” to see what we need. Isn’t it painfully obvious ? The whole footballing world can see it. Can YOU ?
Perhaps you don’t realise we need : 1) at least one defender ( experienced )- even Wenger, grudgingly, admits this ! 2) a tough tackling defensive midfielder, again experienced ; which everyone has been crying out for since Flamini left and hasn’t been addressed ) 3)another striker to cover for Van Persie (when he inevitably gets injured). All of these Wenger himself, has said, are required.
And this was BEFORE Clichy left us. Now we face losing Cesc and / or Nasri. So that’s five or six we need to get, or replace.Yet in “the busy transfer window” we were supposed to be having, we’ve so far only signed ONE !
Yes, we have scouts to identify the talent. Wenger must know who he wants. So why hasn’t he moved before now ? Oh that’s right. We’re “waiting for everyone else to make a move” ( in August). What a farce.

        July 28, 2011 at 10:43 pm

Clichy’s lack of concentration against Birmingham cost us the league a few years back so he won’t be missed….Clubs are reluctant to sell until they can identify their replacements. It isn’t as simple as that. Tough tackling midfielder? If you’re not aware of how good Song is you’re not watching enough games. Frimpong is going to be awesome and again we were unlucky to lose him for an entire season. Ashley Young? Downing? Both average players in my book. Neither are better than what we have. We need one centre back and whether it is Cahill Jagielka or Samba you know we are going to buy him. So quit your whining, idiot.
