TRANSFER NEWS: Liverpool Move For £17m Copa America Star

Liverpool are lining up Porto’s Uruguayan left-back Alvaro Pereira, according to reports.

Red boss Kenny Dalglish is desperate to recruit a top quality full back this summer after Glen Johnson spent the majority of last season covering the left back position.

The Kop legend missed out on Manchester City’s Gael Clichy who opted for a move to Eastlands claiming he stood a better chance of winning trophies at the Manchester club.

Liverpool was also strongly linked with a move for Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique, but has yet to follow up his interest in the Spaniard.

Pereira, who can also play in midfield, was part of the recent Uruguay team that won the 2011 Copa America and would be available for around £17million, but with the Reds already spending over £40million this summer and it’s unlikely the clubs hierarchy will sanction such an expensive purchase for a relatively unknown 25-year old.

It would be nice to think that this was possible. Pereira does have more flexibility in where he plays than most which is undoubtedly and “edge” than would be useful in those “reduced men” occasions. His talent is obvious and it would also free up Johnson back to his original role. Alas the price appears a little steep to say the least!

The price is steep??? how much did we pay for Glen Johnson, Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, and Jordan Henderson? This guy is a World Cup Semi-Finalist, Copa America winner, Europa League Winner, Portuguese League Winner and very versatile in his positions in the team and you think £17m is “steep”? How much where we going to offer the toffees for Baines? £17m would be a bargain for a player with all those accolades, Contraeo has none of those accolades but he went for £25m!

He would be good. But what is the point of this article exactly?
To tell us something we already know.
To say that he is too expensive?

Porto is not selling for cheap we all know that, either Liverpool has the money and is interested, or they don’t so they can not afford him.

You can also write an article how good it would be to get Bale and Modric in exchange for Poulsen and Cole and how it is impossible to happen.

Some of these articles are just waste of time, if not most of them.

    Tired of reading pure speculation.

Article says Liverpool move for £17m COPA star, but the body says Liverpool are unlikely to sanction a move.

What the article is really saying is I don’t know anything.

With 17 mils.. I rather liverpool go for Mata or a proven 3rd choice striker.. someone like Falco, Lucas Barrios or even Benzema. I think we bid a 8 mils is a more reasonable price for him.

are you an idiot Falcao and Benzema cost more than for £17 million lets say £28 million for each at the very lowest prcie but whats more funny is you said they would be third choice striker to who exactly because Carroll is shite lol.

Bheko you are right Pereira is quality better than Baines the onl player better is Cissokho and its funny how much overated british players like Downing, Carroll and Henderson cost with liitle talent and o achievements.

Please do not talk like a barbarian and show some respect to someone. It is just a suggestion that this money could be spent more wisely.. of course I would love to see him bought into our squad ahead of the likes of Luis Enrique who is not even in the international squad and please do not act as if you knew tons about the transfer market.
Mata might be heading to Arsenal for only 15mils.. and he is a world-class winger. Luis Suarez costs us 22mils.. what makes you think the likes of Falcao, Benzema, Barrios cost 28mils. Please think before you type cause your ignorance is laughable.
