Wenger confirms he needs to buy

Arsene Wenger

By Fab4.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed today that the club are in need of defensive reinforcements but again stressed that they will not over-spend to rectify the situation.

With William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikel Silvestre all out of contract this summer as well as doubts over the long-term fitness of Johan Djourou who is coming back from a serious knee injury, there is likely to be a lot of movement in the centre back area at Arsenal over the summer.

However, Wenger will not blow the budget for new signings or new deals.

“We are in need [in defence], yes of course,” said the manager.

“It depends as well on Gallas [contract talks] and how well Djourou comes back but of course we have a need there.

“But we always keep our policy. We manage within our resources and it is not because there is a bigger need that we will overpay the players, because we cannot.”

Of course Arsenal have been unlucky with injuries to defenders this season, in all areas of the pitch actually, but with Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas and Johan Djourou all out injured, Wenger is down to the bare bones at centre back.

To lose arguably your first 3 choice centre backs is unfortunate, as well as Alex Song who would no doubt have filled in had he been fit, and i actually think Arsenal are lucky to be able to call upon 2 very experienced players in Campbell and Silvestre to fill in.

However both are the wrong side of 30 and it’s unlikely both will be at Arsenal next year. With Wenger refusing to budge on the one-year deal policy for over 30’s its becoming more and more likely that Gallas will leave so that’s possibly 3 new centre backs required, one of which will need to be world class to replace Gallas. He will need to be ready to play straight away and not be a young up-and-comer, and world class players don’t come cheap.

Various names will be banded about all over the newspapers and internet but only Wenger knows what he will do and who he will buy. So sit back and enjoy the speculation, let’s just hope Arsene has learnt his lesson and doesn’t see ‘internal resources’ as the solution to our problems at the back come September. Another Thomas Vermaelen will do nicely!

Who should Arsenal buy in the summer? Leave your suggestions below…..

Hangeland would be a good start, he’s had a couple years in English football now so knows what it’s all about. We certainly need a top class keeper as well, why not Kirkland ? He’s proved his fitness over the past 18 months now ?

A defender who cares more about positioning than taking any oppurtunity to attack. unfortunetly i can only name defenders that every1 else throws around not one i actually think fits the mould arsenal need

Hangeland is too old. I would like to see Silvestre, Eduardo, Fabianski and maybe Gallas and 1 other leave. I would like to see Hugo Lloris, 1 or 2 decent CBs like Chiellini or Boateng come in. I would like either Sessignon or Rodallega aswell as Chamack. I feel we would be pretty awesome with those additions.

How about-sell/let move on-denilson-gallas-silvestre-bendtner-fabianski-eduardo. This would leave Almunia as a no.2 goalie (where he should be), and us in need of a couple of new players, who could be bought, and these new players would be supported by the young guns. Hugo Lloris, Craig Gordon or Manual Neuer would do well in goal (and if funds are short sell Almunia and not Fabianski thus raising more money). In our midfield I will be quite controversial and say why not let Fabregas move on? We would make alot of money to fund other transfers and with Ramsey full recovered he would make a good replacement-further-how often does Fabgregas not really turn up when we need him in the big games-he is too easily marked out-so with Denilson and Fabregas gone we would have money to buy Felipe Melo or Daniel De Rossi-both would provide strenght of character and a good understanding of the game-helping the young such as Fran Merida, Craig Eastmont, and Jack Wilshere mature. Upfront I would consider letting Van Persie leave-he is just to injury prone-also-although Bendtner has improved I honestly beleive he will never quite have the ability to become a top player-also Eduardo since his brake has underpeformed-let them go-and make sure Chamakh is aquired who would form a great partnership with Arshavin (similar to the Pavlyuchenko Arshavin partnership for Russia). Then let Carlos Vela develop who has been considerably underperforming considering his obvious potential which is being utilised to great effect by Mexico, and was evident in the Carling cup. Even without Fabregas I think such changes would add experience and resilience to the team which I think Vermaelen should be captain of.-what do you think?

sorry-forgot to say-Simon Kjaer, Cahill, Boatang, potentailly Bassong, Subotic would be good support for Vermaelen. And Also if Chamakh fell through how about Balotelli or if we do have money Dzeko!

i think we need to buy Subotic…him and vermalaen in the back would maybe be the best in EPL…then a goalie and another decent CB… i really liked the way cahill from bolton looks. If the team can stay healthy and nobody really important leaves over the summer i would have to think we are favorite for next year if we buy these types of players.

Deffo re Subotic or Cahill. GOT to buy a world class keeper or may aswell not bother. Make do and mend must stop now. I have always been supportive but the way we wimpered out of the title race at Spurs was truly saddening to me. Expensive surgery is now required.

What a hypocrite ! Now that he is knocked off his pedestal he made a U-turn to say he MUST buy. The whole season he boasted he had enough GOOD players even with injuries and he absolutely sure he can cope. He is beginning to spin his tales to cover his hopelessly poor decisions on buying players.

wenger please buy out of sahko, subotic or boateng.then get rid of almunia and get lloris, akinfeev,or neuer and a world class midfielder like hazard, melo, matuidi, and a striker already got chamakh but need a second striker like lioc remy and the league will be ours next season.

This is what (he) Wenger alwys said & i quote “But we alwys keep our policy,we manage within our resources and it is not because there is a bigger need that we will overpay the player, because we cannot”.It appears to me that no world class player will be signed by Wenger no matter how much the board are willing to offer. And the way Man City is coming,Spurs on the other hand, all i can smell is a dead rats on our side next c’son.Coz Wenger is not going to sign more than two Arsenal type players. For me i accept the way thngs are going because i can’t jump the wagon just bcz of one arrogant old man.Trophiless is wht i’m used to bt fail to appear in UEFA CL in future is what i don’t even like to thnk of.For now here we go empty capboard.Let us hope 4 another c’son as usual.

“Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed today that the club are in need of defensive reinforcements but again stressed that they will not over-spend to rectify the situation”. I cannot for the life of me understand why people think, this crazy man is going to change, go gung ho and bring three / four top players to Arsenal.

Wenger will not buy any defender if Gallas signs new contract and Djourou returns from injury – if you analyse the rest of his remarks this is exactly what he says. Chamak will be our only signing, then he will buy eight 10 year olds for £10 m and sell them in 5 years time for £20 m. This has always been the Wenger way – make money for the board and share holders.

Bring on Red and White holdings – bring on David Dean – get rid of the snide and his blood sucking board.

    I think Wenger should do the followings for the next season;

    1. He should ask Cesc whether he wants to stay with Arsenal or not. If he wants to leave, let him not stand on his way because we wants prayers who will be in love with Arsenal. Above all, Cesc confermed before that he will be joining Barca sometimes, so better if he do it now if he needs. The likes of Ramsey and Nasri will cover up the midfield.

    2. I prefer two England central defenders to join Arsenal. Michael Dawson 26, from Spurs and Michael Turner 26, from Sunderland. These are highly profile defenders with the same qualities of Rio and John Terry. But the problem is they are not seen because their teams does not play in the Champion League. Otherwise, they are very experienced with English football and thery can be cheap to buy, may be 8 million pound each. This would be a good boulster to our central defensive department which practically remains with Vermaelen and Djorou who are young.

    3. Gallas as well as Silvestre should be allowed to go. We thank them for his contribution to the team. By the way, Silvestre had been a very poor defender in Arsenal history – more than Pascal Cygan or Gilles Grimandi who were thought to be the poorest defender in Arsenal history. Silvestre is a defender who can not even pass the ball to his fellow defender infront of him rather passes the ball to the opponent team striker in 18 yard.

4.Wenger must buy atleast two strikers because van Persie is injury prones while Bendter needs more time to come strong and strong. I prefer Wenger to decide to splash out money for Benzema who is available for 18 million pounds and young Intalian striker Mario Balotelli. These two have proven to be the top class strikers. They just need settlement in a good team with good mentor. Mr. Wenger knows very much about Benzema and so if he fail to use his influence to his fellow French man, he will join Man UTD. Benzema is “new Thierry Henry” for those who does not know his qualities. In case of Balotelli 21, he’s like Samuel Etoo.

    5. We need new goal keeper. To my opinion, CSCK Moscow goalkeeper who is 23, suits our team. He is young but very experienced than Almunia. He has been in the first CSCK first team for more than 7 years with EUFA Champions League and National teams experiences. For those who does not know him, he has the qualities of Iker Carsilas of Real Madrid. Almunia should be number 2 not 1

    Heres my take!
I think we are covered in attack with chammakh coming. Eduardo should be given another season and a consistent pre-season.
Let denilson go, he will never be good enough, strong enough or creative enough and buy flamini or matuidi!
Also let rosicky go, he is a liability and we have similar and better players and buy eden hazard at all costs because he is a potential ronaldo and a great investment too.

In central defense, let Gallas go, give Cambell another year plus 2 CBs: one a carbon copy of cambell, a hard man no nonsense huge brittish premier leage experienced defender and another one(3rd choice). I am not sure who can be

And ofcourse a goalie. There are many names like Hart, Frey, infact anyone is an upgrade on almunis and give sczcecsczececshececsny a chance as 2nd or 3rd choice!

Plus ditch the policy of letting attacking players work their magic without worrying about defending. Everyone should work hard defending including fabregas and Arshavin! Working without ball needs to improve!

I am afraid only then Arsenal will be able to really compete till the end but it is an awful lot of buying and a very little chance of happening!

Wenger is such a prick! Won’t buy anyone, you’ll see!

    Our idea team should be
    NEW GK
    Sagna NEW DEF Verm Clichy

    Song Fab New Mid/Nasri

    Van P – Bendtner – Chamakh

    Here’s a thought…
Let’s start defending from the front by off-loading Vela and Eduardo (attackers who rarely trouble accomplished defenders) and buy Torres (attacker who absolutely terrifies defenders).
Liverpool aren’t gonna qualify for CL, and that isn’t gonna go down well with a player as ambitious as Nando.
I feel half the problem with our defence is simply that our attack (RVP excepted) isn’t forcing oposition players to commit to defending against them. Oh and the waiter leaving goes without saying of course.
    Just my 2p’s worth…
