Finally Liverpool Look Like A Club Heading In The Right Direction

It looks like the worse is behind us. Finally we are on a rise. Liverpool FC have (seemingly) good ownership and a inspirational manager to spur the team on.

It’s been way too long without a trophy. And it’s even longer since our last English League title. However, I think that the glory days are beckoning yet again for Liverpool as finally we seem to be behind our dark times. We have been knocked off our perch, but you bet this Liverpool team will try to knock Manchester United off theirs.

Our squad is finally looking balanced. A sturdy defence in our ever so reliable Jamie Carragher. Glen Johnson providing marauding runs for the attack, our full-back trio in Martin Kelly, John Flanagan and Jack Robinson looking eager to make an impression out there. Stewart Downing providing more width, Gerrard to be rid of his groin problems come sometime in September, and I haven’t even got started on Luis Suarez.

We have pretty much every reason to be excited for this upcoming season, especially considering our hopes were dashed by October last year with Roy Hodgson doing a lot of damage to our club. Don’t even mention bringing in Christian Poulsen and Paul Konchesky to me, they seem to be Division Two players.

John W Henry is finally offering Liverpool much needed transfer kitty, as the probably admittedly mad duo of George ‘Yank’ Gillet and Tom ‘Quick Buck’ Hicks are finally far from Liverpool. Fernando Torres, a hero he was, saving us with a sensational last minute goal. Banging in 20 a season, but admittedly last season was a horrible season for him, and it was the right offering for the player. (no jokes please, he’s a class player)

But now we have a probably less fragile strike partnership in Andy Carroll (although of course I’m worried over his fitness) and Luis Suarez (whom has been sensational ever since the World Cup). It’s a partnership that could really work, as seen against Manchester City last season, and it can be used to even more devastating effect with Downing at the club now, supplying the crosses for Carroll to get on to. That was a crucial, and in my opinion a great signing for the club.

Statistically, he’s been the 2nd best in the league in terms of crossing last season, with only Leighton Baines being better in terms of cross completion rate last season. So that was a good signing. Henderson, debatable, especially given the price, however, if Gerrard’s going to be out for a while, we need someone to step into his shoes, and Henderson indeed has a lot of potential to fill that very gap.

To me, it’s even a strange feeling, noone wanting to leave Liverpool this summer (besides Jovanovic). It’s a very strange thing for me to see. Often, summers are filled with our star players’ potential exits. Namely Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, and more recently Fernando Torres. I think it’s great to see the passion and loyalty of the players (although I really want Poulsen out), that they want to be part of an exciting project that Liverpool are undergoing, that they want to stay and fight for their place in this very team that gets stronger by the game.
