REPORTS: Arsenal To Tie Up £7m Signing This Week

By on August 8, 2011

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Southampton youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to reports over the weekend.

A £12m deal is thought to be in place, with the Gunners paying £7m up front with a further £5m based on appearances and performances.

Arsene Wenger has been tracking the 19-year-old for some time and came close to signing him in January, but a deal couldn’t be agreed. Both Man Utd and Man City, as well as Liverpool have also been keen on Chamberlain, but it is believed that Arsenal are the players preferred destination.

Reports over the weekend claim that Wenger will tie up the deal this week, and rumours were fuelled when Chamberlain was left out of Southampton’s opening fixture of the Championship season on Saturday. It is believed the player has been left fuming over a two week fine handed out for his comments confirming he wanted’t to leave the Saints:

‘Southampton, and especially the fans, have been brilliant to me ever since I broke into the first team.

‘It has been fantastic helping them to get promoted. But now I feel I’m ready to play in the Premier League.’

He’s 18 today not 19, and to Dai if his left toe was worth £7m he’d be more expensive than Christiano Ronaldo… He’s nowhere near that level and has only managed league 1 football, hardly setting the world alight. £12m is a huge price for a 18 year old considering we got Myiachi for free and he’s the same age and has played at a much higher level in the dutch leage with Feyenord

I really hope for the fans sake that this not the good news wenger mentioned for this week. I pray to god it isnt. We need defenders not more school boys, i think arsenal fans who be happy if we signed someone like cahill this week or even Mata but not the likes of oxlaide or Joel campbell.

Just sell Cesc to Barca for £30m plus Affelay then spend the £30m on Sneijder. Then you have replacements for Cesc and Nasri. You also have the cash from the sale of Nasri (£25m) to spend along with the cash you get for Bendtner, Eboue and Almunia (£15m) That is £40m to land 3 defenders and 2 defensive midfielders. Samba, Mertesacker, Cahill, Parker and Barton. Finally you have the transfer kitty to splash on that Marquee signing Benzema, Eto, Lukaku, Higuain if you have the balls Mr Wenger????

It just goes to show how important fans views actually are. Saints Fans don’t want him to go (what can you get for 7m apart from bigger wage bill) and Arsenal fans think 12m is too much (rightly in my opinion) but it looks like he will go.

This piece of business is not good for anyone apart from journalist that is short of a story.

If I was an Arsenal fan I would be starting to worry about Wengers habit of buying young boys
