Sir Alex Ferguson has once again ruled out Manchester United signing Wesley Sneijder, insisting that he has been doing so for weeks, with only the media keeping the rumours alive whilst he has the confidence in his young midfielder’s to deliver this season.

The Manchester United manager seemed understandably impatient when questioned about the chances of Sneijder moving to Old Trafford on the back of a long, drawn out transfer saga surrounding the player and United. When asked about Sneijder, Ferguson said:

“You can forget anyone you like, I’m happy with the young players I’ve got.”

“I’ve been saying that for weeks but you [the media] have all been writing differently – that I’m going to buy this one or that one. But we’ve said nothing, we just carry on with our business.”

It’s true. Ferguson has been constantly pessimistic in public about United’s chances with any Sneijder deal. He said as much in mid-July when he asserted that United fans who were eager to see Sneijder in a United shirt should “forget it”, as a deal would be too hard to complete.

The media have been fuelling United fans’ addiction for positive information on Sneijder. There have been so many conflicting reports on the deal which has been on and off constantly throughout the window, with fans forced to feed off misinterpreted or untrue quotes from people important in the deal.

It seems ridiculous, that despite Ferguson ruling out a deal many times this summer, people have put his denials down to his famous “mind games,” in the hope that the rumours can continue, and fake “exclusives” can continue to be plastered on back pages with very little credibility or plausibility to back them up.

Maybe at last, we can settle for the fact that Sir Alex has ruled out any signings, and has clearly said that he is happy with the players he has at the moment.

But young players United have still much to learn. When we compare the formation of the center of Barcelona, to which were added with Sanchez Fabregas and Manchester, so it makes a huge difference in overall quality. Ferguson does not want to admit Cleverley is a good player, but not for United. There should be playing only the tip, but since it does not, United have no chance of winning the Champions League!

wel said! SAF is in the wrong track this season , i can understand that the youth could have this measure but it is in the future, we don’t like to wing the league with much stress as we did last year, but if if u decide like that u could rule out urself again from champions league …..sometimes lend ur ear for FANS

I think SAF needs to be replaced as is the case with all coachs no matter how great you have been. The difference in class between man u midfield and Barcca and Real Madrid is plain for all to see. Just watching Aguero last night for man city shows that the game move on and youngsters cant bridge this gap immeadiately. You need top class players like Sneijder to bridge this gap.

Another season Fergie will rely on the youth.just like last season when it comes to champ league and we out again…same excuse we played with our youth in the midfield. Sneijder was the missing piece but Fergie knows best!

SAF bring Sneijder n reduce the pressure while watchin united play…our new young talents will be more than happy to just appear in the champions league! We want the cup instead!!

I think u all need a serious reality check. Fergie needs to be replaced? Are u mad?

Fergie knows what he is doing and will guide us to number 20, there is little doubt in that.

If we signed Sneijder where would he play? Behind the front man? That’s rooneys position. This would mean dropping Hernandez for Sneijder. Signing Sneijder in my mind affects the formation of the squad. He also prefers to play in a 3 man midfield.

We have enough to win the league. Do we have enough to beat Barcelona to the CL? prob not but neither do any other team at the mo

Well said bro.. ferfie replaced?? people must be mad to even think so.. hes got the winning mentality and only a coach like fergie can bring abouta youth revolution in united.. we may not be better than barca.. but we can beat them with the right mindset and gameplan… as we did a couple of weeks ago in usa

What? No Sneijder? Relying on youngsters who have little or no experience?

    Not the way to go.

Man U need real class in midfield if they want to win the champions league again. Ferguson knows this but if he’s content to lose out again then….

I can’t believe Fergie is content with our midfield now.. how could u challenge a Team like berca when u have players like Ando, Carrick, Clev and Fletc as ur mean midfielders…! We need to bring Sneijder INN… I watched Berca play real this weekend and I was so concern abt the quality of play from both teams… Again i watched US (MAN UTD) against West Brom.. and all i can say is we need to strengthen our midfield… If u r satisfied we r not… Pls bring in SNEIJDER…

Having watched the game against WBA we looked good going forward but when the game settled down our midfield defensively was wanting. Cleverly may well be our future but he needs a defensive midfielder next to him.
I am suprised that SAF thinks our midfield is good enough to win things this year but sorry boss we are short in the engine room where games are won.
I am a bit wary that our present midfield can compete at the highest level against Barca and Real and don’t want a repeat of the last two Champions League Finals
Sneider might be the answer and also a defensive midfielder.

am sure SAF wanted to bring in Sneijder as well but complications surrounding the transfer. Honestly the team right now is brilliant but there are 2 missing pieces on the jigsaw puzzle.
    1. goal keeper (hope de gea picks up soonest)
    2. goetze
must it take a stronger team “again” to expose our weakness. “Champions 20”

Saf is damn mistaken again! Remember him shaking like a vibrator as barca tore us apart? This year it will b worse! The youth are 4 the future .get. us quality players place else u will b shaking in every man u game! !

It is difficult watching nited play withot a world claa midfielder, the defence and attacking line up is excellent; however uunited need a sneider or a david silva. If we do not address this games will become difficult and the champions league a mere drem. Sell Anderson, carrick and diouf to raise fund for sneider. other great players are tiote of newcastle, gotze and marvin martin. If SAF thinks the game against city means we can rest on what we have hi is wrong as they look very strong with Augero. Bt Agero is not Romario- i suggest Mancini watches the barca videos if he think he is. United will win the league.

We shud sell berbatov coz we have too many attackers; Rooney, Hernandez, berbatov, welbeck, macheda, diouf. Then with that money buy sneijder, gotze or tiote because our youth is not very experienced. You can’t play cleverly against iniesta and xavi

If this is for real, then it’s also the most dreaded piece of news. SAF can say what he wants but Utd will not go much further without a top midfielder like Sneijder. Cleverley is good but we need better than good. The rest of midfielders at Utd are just a bunch of joke. Worryingly, Gibson still seems to be around and Park has been given an extended contract!!! God help Utd. Finally, SAF seems to have fallen for the media hype regarding his young guns…that’s unusual for a 70-year old..I’m really worried.
