TRANSFER NEWS: Chelsea Stun Arsenal & Spurs With Sensational Spending Spree

By on August 19, 2011

Chelsea are set to make a stunning double swoop on Valencia’s Juan Mata and Tottenham’s Luka Modric, according to reports today.

Andre Villas-Boas has identified the need for more creativity in his side and the Daily Mail claim owner Roman Abramovich is willing to open the check book to bid £29m for Mata and increase their offer for Modric to over £30m.

Chelsea had a £22m offer for Mata rejected earlier this week but Valencia would be willing to sell if an offer of £29m was tabled and the player himself is keen to join the Premier League. Mata has previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham, but it seems Chelsea are now closing in on the Spanish star.

The Modric situation could also be finalised soon after Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp suggested the club could sell their star player in order to raise funds for several signings, and the blues are set to test their resolve with an offer in excess of £30m.

This is about the 30th day that I have seen this comment about Modric. Will it be this year?
How about some real news instead of inventing some.
Maybe Chelsea are going to sell Torres for 5 million?
Maybe the Daily Mail will close down?

Sadly, Harry cannot keep his stupid mouth shut. If he thinks that selling his best player to a team with a poorer squad is good business, Levy should sack him now. If he can’t stop phoning Talk Sport up every day, he should also sack him. Thankfully it has got nothing to do with Redknapp and Modric isn’t for sale.

    what is wrong with wenger
if we loose out on Mata ,the fans will not forgive him, less than 12 days to the end of the transfer window, he is still trying to grab cash by selling and not replacing…
I really hate this stingy Guy, i wish he goes .. , i dont know iif he doesnt see how weak his team plays this days

I’m just surprised the Daily Mail hasn’t linked David Cameron to Chelsea as their Director of Communications. I’d heard that they reported Osborne had applied for the Director of Finance role but Abramovich considered him to be too limited in his vision.

Take 30 mill plus a player. ( Sturridge). But only SELL if we have options for replacements. The player is going to leave in the future anyhow. If not now , next season. Has a bad year he’ll be worth 20 mill. Harry has a point. Spurs dont have the funds. So they need to sell. If it means getting 2 or 3 players which will benefit the team in the long run. then sadly sell him. Shame its not a foreign club wanting him.

You must be joking £30mill plus Sturridge, he is Chelsea’s future and repalacement for either the departed Anelka, or Kalou who both i believe have been used along with Benauyum to get Modrich they have been offered as part of the deal. Not Sturridge!!!!!

@Big Mal – Sell to a poorer squad?!?! Are you nuts!!! Spurs best players are Bale, Van Der Vaart and Modric. Yet Chelsea have Cech, Terry, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Drogba, Torres… Shall I go on…??? Your team is 5th/6th team at best and signing Brad Friedel shows that… Yid mug!!!

@MattCFC, your first 11 to 17 MAY be stronger – but @Big Mal was NOT referring to your TEAM, rather your SQUAD. It’s about numbers 18 to 25 on your list. Irrespective of where we finished in the league, we have a squad, whose quality belies its position in the league. The problem was, last season, some of them, saw hardly any first TEAM action…Harry Redknapp doesn’t like rotation, that much is obvious – but that is not the fault of the squad, which remains very even, aside from the handful of players you mentioned.

This is became idiotic from Spurs side. They desperately short of any cash for players and hope squeeze Chelsea maximum they can for Modric. obviously I do not thing it will work. Its better stick to mata for 22-23 millions and Wilian of Shakhter for 19-20 millions. Lets spurs dry and left with nothing, let spurs teach a lesson as barcelona teach Arsenal they refused 29 millions last year this year it was 25 millions, Spurs refused 17 millions, next year nobody gives “no gentlemen” Levy more then 23 millions at best

So mattCFC derides Friedel signing! Cech injured and only Hilarious and an unproven to come in. Must have an IQ lower than his hatsize. Matt seems somewhat challenghed so hope this helps. Open mouth again and remove foot.

Once you get rid of your tight fisted owner and tax evading manager then you might one day finish above Chelsea

Some fans knows little about business. Harry is not and has never been a stupid guy. Levy is the one to blame. Only early bird will catch the worm. Sell now and buy now or keep him and risk being number 7. next reason. Think beyond before you spurs fans.

    1. Spurs need to sell before they can buy.
    2. Modric wants to leave, therefore is unlikely to play as well, he lacks heart if forced to stay.
    3. £30m+ isnt bad business, it can buy 3 players like Diarra.
    4. Sell Modric (who Chelsea badly want) and strengthen your team with other players ready to play.
    5. No way Redknapp is wrong in his approach, the longer Modric sticks around, the lesser time you have to replace him with others if he still ends up leaving this summer!!

@sheikh352 what’s the difference between your ‘TEAM’ & ‘SQUAD’? I have always been of the belief that football is a TEAM Sport…. Team/Squad really refer to the same in this sport…. So whether its the team or squad, Chelsea seem to have the wood over Rottenham in all departments….player quality, Club Attraction, Value for money, repayment on investment, ability to actually win trophies and the list goes on and mustn’t forget…. Location, Location, Location!
