Chelsea Transfer News: “Chelsea Made Offer” But Must Up Bid To €30m

Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has warned Chelsea against making another ‘derisory’ offer for Uruguayan full-back Alvaro Pereira

Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has warned Chelsea against making another ‘derisory’ offer for Uruguayan full-back Alvaro Pereira.

The South American defender is wanted by the Blues but have been told they will need to pay the minimum fee release clause if they want to sign Pereira.

The 25-year-old has already been the subject of a failed £15million bid from Chelsea, and his escape clause set at €30million. Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has identified his former player as the ideal replacement for Yury Zhirkov who left for Anzhi Makhachkala earlier this summer, and da Cost said:

“Chelsea made us an offer for Pereira, but it took just 30 seconds to turn it down,” said Pinto da Costa.

“Every player who has an escape clause in his contract can leave if somebody makes us an offer that matches that fee.

“But for Pereira, that escape clause is €30million.”
