Mertesacker didn’t look that bad. Terrible on one or two of the Poland attacks, but not really culpable on the others. It looked like the German defence hasn’t played much together before, and they weren’t on the same wavelength.

I blame the Right Backs Positioning and lack of discipline in both situations also he is tracking back from a counter attack he is probabley the cover defender meaning he is not supposed to attack the ball and seeing that there was no one to close down the runners he was forced to make a decision that a Defensive Mid or a stopper defender should have made. Do not judge him on one performance.

I had a look at the 2 incidents cited here and on both occasions, i agree with ArsenalPhysio. He was the covering defender and on both occasions, i think it was the RB that loss the runners which probably exposed the CB to the counter attack. Of course, my slight concern now is this might happen with Arsenal considering we have a real “attacking” LB in Santos.

Nevertheless, it’s unfair to judge Per based on 1 game. Give him some time to show what he can do for us in an Arsenal jersey before we draw conclusions! He is an experienced international and you don’t play 76 times for your country, especially if it’s Germany, if you are lousy!

Why would Arsenal fans want to look away!? It wasn’t an Arsenal game. He will be ready come Saturday. Great goalkeeping! Arsenal owe someone a beating!

Don’t get the second one. He covered his player, showed him to the outside and was let down by his full back not covering the other Pole! First one he was left covering two Poles and got caught out a bit in no man’s land. But where was his full back (again)? He was out of position in an out of shape back four for the first Polich goal and has to take some blame for that. But give the incisive Polish counter attack some credit too. I’m not losing any sleep on the basis of that clip that’s for sure.

Why do Spuds post crap titles to ruin a good vid like this? Why not just rename it Wenger was right not to pay stupid money on 47yr old over rated Mark Shwarzer, and Shay “no better than Almunia” Given…….. when we got Chezzzzza!!
Also..Merts wasn’t totally at fault for any of the goals either, the future is bright Gooners!

TOTAL BS STORY. In fact, from watching the clips I realize Per has better pace that it has been portrayed by some people.

At 26, u can not get 77 cap under ur belt in german national team if u are a crap.it seem our enemy have seen that we ve gotten it right defensively this season, so they quickly want 2 run him down forgetting that he is experience enough to wheather the storm, so british press stop whining and off our back.he is no cahil by all standard

Really little ANY defender can do in a two against one situation, and in both this cases the right back is slow getting back hence there is a runner out wide and the guy on the ball, you run to the guy with the ball he wil pass the ball to the other guy if you man the runner the guy on the ball has space to run and shoot… what could Mer do? this critics should tell us.

Thanks for the video! It actually puts me more at ease, I was actually buying the whole mertersacker is crap band wagon for a while. The second moment was a player beating the fullback. Per could do nothing about that. The first maybe he turned at the wrong moment but it was still about a faster player sitting on the shoulder. The fullback and the DM should have been covering. thanks again!

Anyone would think he was lacking match fitness or something.
That or you’re just a trolling, hit-seeking tosspiece.
Which’ll it be then folks?
