Wenger ‘certain’ to sign a player before World Cup

Arsene Wenger has declared that Arsenal will unveil a new signing before the World Cup begins on the 11th of June. With the start of the summer transfer window just round the corner, Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of players and Wenger has already stated he wants to get his transfer dealings done quickly to help the team settle and was also wary of the World Cup inflating player prices.

Now now the Arsenal boss has gone one step further and claimed he will ‘certainly’ announce one signing before the World Cup begins, while he also says he could make two or three signings this summer.

“We have a basic squad and I believe in the squad I have,” he said. “But if I can make an addition – two or three maximum – then we will do it.

“I will try to do what I want to do as quickly as possible but I am not the only decider. It doesn’t only depend on me.

“Ideally, you would want to do the job before the World Cup. It is difficult to give yourself the right timing.

“Certainly, we will announce one player before the World Cup. After that we will see.”

Now I’m no rocket scientist, but the fact Arsene says ‘announce’ and not ‘sign’, combined with the fact he seems so confident, it’s safe to assume the transfer is pretty much tied up already, which means the player in question is almost certainly Marouane Chamakh.

The real question will be how many players we sign, two or three. I hope Chamakh isn’t included in that total because Chamakh plus one other isn’t enough im afraid. Chamakh plus a , goalkeeper and a centre back is a minimum, so i think we need to throw in a central midfielder as well, then we’re set. So four new players please boss!

What do you make of Wengers comments? How many players do you think Arsenal need to sign? Please leave your opinions below…..
