According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are looking at signing David Villa of Barcelona and Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain in January.

The report by Spanish radio station  Cadena Ser claims that Liverpool are concerned at the lack of goals by Andy Carroll, Dirk Kuyt among others so far this season and are preparing big bids to land the top-class striking duo in the January transfer window in order to push for a tilt at the title.

Normally, I wouldn’t mention these kind of rumours but it is so sensational that I felt I had to cover it. David Villa is very much playing second-fiddle to Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp, scoring 21 goals in 39 starts in a mostly left-wing position, what an addition he would be to Kenny and the team, his transfer fee is likely to be near the £30 million mark though.

Real Madrid’s Gonzalo seems to be an option also as he is frozen out by Karin Benzema and José Mourinho, the Argentine has scored 71 goals in 132 appearances for Real, he won’t come too cheap either.

So, it would likely require a further investment of £50 million upwards by John Henry to get these two class forwards, it may just happen. It would be great to get one or both of these high-quality forwards on the books at Liverpool, it would instantly move us up another level in the Premier League as, at the moment, Luis Suarez seems to be doing it all on his own.

Higuain would be a possibility and an a savage signing but no chance of getting Villa from Barca.

Even as a Liverpool fan, I have to laugh hard at this. If we sign either of these players, I will eat a whole cow while its alive.

Liverpool have 0% of signing either player, they are 2 world class players who if ever left there clubs could choose any club they want.

There is no chance FSG would sanction a 30m transfer for a 30 year old player no matter who he is, higuain tho is a different matter, and is one that could come off, the most likely player in jan at this moment tho is germany’s goetze

What a ridiculous article – thought up by some nerd in only his boxer shorts with nothing better to do (with his other hand!). How would sources in Spain know what Liverpool are ‘thinking’ about? It’s not like Rafa is still there! Players know nothing – any ex-player will tell you.

As for Villa playing second fiddle….erm, excuse me, but who is Barca’s striker again? Yes, it’s that guy who has started in just about every game this season…erm Villa, I think his name is! Villa starts as a striker and his role is to pull the centre back out of the way for Messi to come through – he’s not a winger – it’s called tactics.

What a load of horse manure!

If Liverpool had money to spend they would have done it by now and gotten someone like Manuel Mata and not all overpriced and not good enough British players.

I guess our owners don’t mind Liverpool being linked with players from strong clubs, none of them would come.
LFC can might as well be linked with Messi, it’s the same thing.

If they wanted to make a signal of intent they should have rivaled City over Aguero, I’d trade Carroll and Adam for Kun any day.

We must accept the fact that these owners need profit and they don’t care about Liverpool’s title chances as long as club’s merchandise is selling.

    • K Pilks

      September 30, 2011 at 7:50 pm

You’re an idiot. Aguero is on 3x the wages as Andy and almost 2x what Gerrard is earning. We could/can afford the price but his pay would destroy the wage structure of the club. Fairweather, kneejerking moron.

      • m kop

        October 1, 2011 at 7:50 pm

I’d gave Aguero all Henderson’s transfer fee just to have him in the team.

It’s much better Spearing in the middle and Kun up front than Carroll and Henderson.

    m kop…

that is such an unfair comment. The owners have demonstrated their willingness to spend. How quick we look a gift horse in the mouth. Remember H & G? Some fans may question the vast amount spent on certain players but what cannot be sanely questioned is the owners commitment!

Well said mate – people have such short memories don’t they??

This article is a load of rubbish but why do we have to question the owners when they have done nothing but back the manager that we all want in charge?

      Some people are never happy!

    • m kop

      October 1, 2011 at 7:54 pm

They have just reinvested fee recived from sales and added 40 mil. of their own.

40 mil. is not exactly huge spending.

Remember when H&G arrived, they spent what LFC made winning CL to bring Torres and Babel and we were all happy!

The same thing is happening now and you choose not to see it.

this is just plain ridiculous. we dont really
need a striker and expensive ones at that.
what we need is a right winger. hazard is
valued at 26 m. a creative midfielder eriksen from ajax for around 15. had a good game in the second half againist madrid. and just for fun we can get affelay for 12 as a back up striker.
    when fit he scores.
    kelly. coates agger enrique
    hazard gerrard eriksen downing
    affely/ bellamy suarez

i still think its wishful thinking.
we might end up buying overpriced british
potentials who will take four years to mature.
man utd migjt hav won 4 more titles and we will hate ourselves.
one question to all lfc fans. why are we competing for 4 th spot when we have spent over a hundred million? answer pliz . ynwa

No Rafa never got a break on his net spend…..we count the millions as spent! this money was not spent for this season more like 3/4 seasons, player don’t start peaking till about 24/25 so many many many years…

Badnews is your classis fifa/football manager clown. If he were in charge he would stick 2 players under 22 in defence, one unproven 19 year old player who had a mediocre season in the dutch league, an aging Bellamy who is a backup, and affely who had done little but ride the bench for a year.

do you understand the homegrown status requirement badnews? thought they had that in football manager… CLOWN

We have to be fair to Andy Carroll n give him alittle more time to see if he can get more goals for LFC n I think the return of a fit Stevie G mite give him the service to do this, look at Torres with stevie’s service n look at him now! Our number 1 playmaker will be back n should make more chances

    carrol 35
    henderson 16-18

    adam 8
    enrique 6
    suarez 25
coatez 8. on the low side its around 117m.
the question is why have we spent all this money and we are still talking about 4 th spot. remembering spurs tear us to pieces
makes me fear they will beat us to cl s
pot. still with the amount u r claiming we could have done better for 2 world class players.
our left side is very ok. k.k build on the right side and another creative midfielder

Its called NET SPEND you moron, take off 50m for that for Torres, Meireles, Babel, etc/Players off of the wage bill. Net spend I believe was 44m according to Sky Sports, Not entirely sure, that is why I said 40-50m. What a dunce. You’re an embarrassment to the club.

You can also subtract a few million off of those made up totals you posted.

      • K Pilks

        October 1, 2011 at 7:45 am

        We spent 40-50m on:

        1. Domestic based players who know the language and the league and many of whom qualify for home grown status.
        2. They all had good seasons last year and were relatively injury free.
        3. A few foreign based players like Luis and Coates.
        4. Our goal is to secure champions league football first and more foreign superstars will be willing to come to LFC.
        5. “badnews” is a complete and utter freaking moron.

Higuain would be great. He has spanish influenced and would communicate with Suarez really well upfront but then again bringing the lad to Liverpool is something almost impossible to do. But either way, he;d be a great addition if KK can snap him up. KK should get Raul Albiol too. Albiol should and could be the Carragher’s heir.

I think whoever striker we put in a game will not be effective if we don’t have good and creative midfielders. Just look at Barca, if Liverpool is to be successful. Barca have two excellent midfielders in Iniesta n Xavier playing alongside each other. In Liverpool case, if they put creative playmaker in Gerrard or Adam to play alongside the so-called first choice Lucas, I don’t think Liverpool will go far. Apart from having boundless energy just doing the running, Lucas has no body contact, cannot tackle and head, and no vision in moving the ball creatively to the strikers.

    • Mohd Tauffick

      October 1, 2011 at 5:07 am

I think it’s time to give Lucas a break and let Adams and Gerrard stroll acres of untenanted space in midfield. i AGREE with Livmad above and nothing is farther than the truth. Bsesides Lucas tpye of play is suitable for the Brazil team.

Guy i agree with everything u said bt to drop lucas i wil disagree bcos lucas right now is in his best form. And if we are to drop lucas i think we are going to be in trouble cos no lad is doing an extral work like lucas does most especially when it come to time of macking. I dont knw wat other ppls think bt for me lucas deserve a first team action as of now.

For those who love to criticize, please spend a moment or 2 to check the situation of the 2 above mentioned players. I don’t know where you fellas come from to say things as if you are pretty sure of what is happening and that you are so right in your opinion. If you are really that good, go ahead, you write your own article and let others judge you.

Gonzalo Higuain is playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema lately. Ever since he has recovered from his injury, he is finding it hard to break into RM’s first 11. Check Villa’s stats. Since the beginning of the season he has only started 1 match and played full (against Osasuna) but the rest are as substitute or substituted. This goes back to the pre-season games. He has played full games for his national team (Euro qualifying) but his club doesn’t see him fit to play full game for them. On top of all this, Suarez is being linked to Barca and new recruit Sanchez is Villa’s competition while for Higuain, Neymar is constantly linked to RM.

The situation here is something that both these players won’t be happy with the quality and goal scoring record they hold.

What’s the point of being top 11 back at your national team but play second fiddle in your club? Players need game time to be match fit and to stay in top form. In order to achieve this they will try to do anything to play regularly including leaving their current club.

What’s the purpose of being in the payroll of Spanish Champion, EPL Champion, Serie A Champion or even Ligue 1 Champion when you play a small role for them thus starting to miss out in your own national team.

Just because they are linked to Liverpool or any other team, it doesn’t mean that they will do it but circumstances are such for these 2 players that there is a possibility that they may move on but to which team is ones guess.

We need to get real. And some story’s really don’t deserve to be published.

Villa doesn’t want to be second fiddle to Messi the rest of his career, he won his trophies and I’m sure he is ready for a new challenge. Also Barca has Affelay sitting on their bench and he plays Left Wing, also Pedro and Alexis Sanchez whom are all younger and can fill Villa’s void if Barca sold him. If we added Villa alone that would be great. Also Higuain is starting to lose out to an in form Benzema and he may want to start a new chapter as well. Liverpool with Suarez, Higuain and Villa would be on par with City and United as far as a strike force.
