Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has denied speculation that he has already signed a new 2-year contract extension and has even said he doesn’t know if he will decide to stay on with the Gunners. Recent reports had suggested Wenger had agreed a new 2-year deal and some saying he had even put pen to paper, but speaking after Arsenal’s 4-0 defeat of Fulham,

“At the moment I have not extended,” he said. “I am very happy with my Club and I am always respecting my contracts. But if I extend it and when I don’t know yet.”

Not exactly convincing stuff from the boss there. Saying ‘if’ he extends it he doesn’t know certainly puts some doubt on whether he will remain Arsenal manager beyond his current deal which expires in 2011. I am almost certain he will sign on and this is just the usual coy Wenger we all know. It is unlikely he would walk away from his project even if Arsenal were to win a trophy next season. He would be letting a lot of players down. Chief Exec Ivan Gazidis is also confident Arsene will extend his stay.

“I think everybody knows that the board has always backed Arsène and believes in him totally,” he told the Official Matchday Programme.

“Arsène, in return has a great love for the Club. There’s no dimming in his desire and I’ve no doubt that we’ll extend his contract, but we’ll do that very quietly and with the minimum of fuss.

“When it’s appropriate to make an announcement we will do so.”

It remains to be seen how Arsenal fans feel about Wenger staying on beyond his current contract. I assume a lot will be swayed by how the boss recruits this summer and whether we can end a 5 year trophy drought.

How would you feel if Arsene signed a new contract this summer? Please leave your comments below…

Although we haven’t won a trophy for 5 years I still believe that Arsene Wenger is the man for the job and if the Board still have faith then so should the fans, and as yet I haven’t heard anyone calling for his head unlike some clubs who’s fans call for the manager to be sacked after two bad results. So I say I hope Mr Wenger signs a new long term contract.

I have admired and respected Arsene over the years, but the Board are always using his loyalty for their own financial agenda. (i.e. to increase the value of their shares and therefore their own wealth).

How else to explain the conflicting comments; The Board say “there is money to invest in new players”, Arsene says “we will only buy minimal, because we have to pay the wages at the end of the month”.

Time to go Arsene, before the fans blame you for the Board’s misleading nonsense!

we arsenal supporters world over have trust in mr. Arsene’ Wenger, it is only the small hearted that doubt him. some of us who have been patient enough once witnessed history made by him, by going an entire season unbeaten. which manager in the premiership can archieve what he archieves every season with the kind of budget he has.Iam sure he will add a few important players, 1 goal keepre, i central defender, 1 diffensive midfielder an i center forward.
    IN ARSENE’ WE TRUST.

Even though being a deep Arsenal follower, I think that Arsenal should give Wenger one last season to sign the right players and win some silverwear. If he succeed, keep him, if not, I think it is time to move on.

However, you then have to think about the replacement. Harry Redknapp and Jose Mourhino would be brilliant choices, but I don’t think the fans will be pleased about a manager from Chelsea and Tottenham.
