Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has hailed his experienced side, after the Blues cruised to a comfortable 5-1 victory at Bolton yesterday.

Chelsea moved back to third thanks to a hat-trick from Frank Lampard and a Daniel Sturridge brace, and Villas-Boas insists the quality of his squad can challenge for the title this season.

“It is not a question of age – it is a question of competence, and this squad is full of competence,” Villas-Boas said.

“The talent of the players is never in question and I think we have enough to talent to try to continue to challenge for the Premier League.”

And Villas-Boas also indicated that he knew hat-trick hero Lampard would answer his critics sooner or later.

“It was good for him because he had a good, solid performance alongside the rest of the team,” he added.

“He arrived with perfect timing into the box as he has done in the past years. His talent was never in question.”
