United Ace: “We Showed Signs Of Champions”

Phil Jones believes Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday was the ‘sign of champions’ ater they dug deep to grind out the result.

The newly promoted Canaries more than held their own at Old Trafford before succumbing to two second-half strikes from Anderson and Danny Welbeck. The result was uncharacteristically poor by United’s standards, who in turn have bagged 24 goals in seven league games this season.

Nonetheless, it is evident to Jones that results like Saturday’s that prove the Red Devils are good enough to retain the Premiership.

“It was a difficult game. Norwich came here with a game plan and stuck to it,” the former Blackburn man told the Manchester Evening News.

“It made it difficult for us to break them down but we showed signs of champions in getting two goals late on.

“As champions, football fans expect you to turn up and be the best every week but we know football isn’t like that and that was proved against Norwich.

“They made it difficult and we had to be patient, that’s what the manager said at half-time – move the ball quicker but be patient.

“It’s been difficult not having a settled back four all season but all the lads are capable of switching around and it again shows the sign of champions, coming into positions and still proving you’re good enough.”
