Chelsea & Man Utd Blow As £20m Target Set For New Contract

By on October 5, 2011

Everton wonderkid Ross Barkley will be handed a £1million-a-year deal on his 18th birthday in December to fight off interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Toffees starlet is reportedly being monitored by the Premiership giants after some impressive displays for Everton this season. The 17-year old has played three times already this campaign which has seen the youngster earn a call up to the England U21 squad.

Reports last month suggested Andre Villas-Boas had sanctioned a £20million move for Barkley in January, but the Chelsea boss was quick to distance himself from the speculation suggesting he hasn’t seen much of the promising midfielder.

Sir Alex Ferguson has also lodged his interest in Barkley and will be keeping tabs on the gifted midfielder, but Everton will be hoping the lure of a new contract will be enough to persuade the youngster into staying on Merseyside.
