Chelsea Ace “Offered A Contract” To Stave Off Arsenal & Liverpool Interest

By on October 14, 2011

Andre Villas-Boas has revealed Chelsea have offered in-demand striker Salomon Kalou a new contract.

The Ivorian international is out of contract at the end of the season and the club are keen to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. However, Kalou has drawn interest from Arsenal and Liverpool with both clubs monitoring his situation. The versatile forward has been at Chelsea for five years since his switch from Dutch giants Feyenoord, and Villas-Boas revealed:

“Kalou was offered a contract and hopefully we will continue talks,” he told the club’s official website.

“In January these players are available to discuss their future. We’ll continue talks until we reach an agreement or not.

“The fact that they are emotionally tied to this club – like Nico (Anelka) – too, means we can count on them while they are negotiating. Their loyalty to the club will never be in question.”

The 26-year old has played 232 times for Chelsea in all competitions scoring 55 goals in the process.
