Wenger Open To £50m January Spending Spree

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested he would be tempted in to the January transfer market if the right players were available.

The Gunners were active in the summer market bringing in seven players, but also lost several first team regulars like Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. It has been a disappointing start to the new campaign culminating in a humiliating 8-2 loss at the hands of Man Utd, and many Arsenal fans are calling for Wenger to enter the winter market and make some high profile signings, something the Frenchman has failed to rule out.

Wenger admits much will depend on his sides form in the run up to the New Year as well as the players who are available in January, but Arsenal fans will be buoyed by rumours claiming Wenger will have up to £50m to work with if he can identify the right targets. When questioned about whether he will spend, Wenger remained coy as ever:

“At the moment I would say no, but it depends first of all who is on the market and it depends secondly on how well we do between now and December.

If we have good results the players and the players have developed well, then numbers-wise we have a big squad.”
