Villas-Boas Confirms Interest In Starlet

By on October 19, 2011

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the Blues interest in Genk starlet Kevin de Bruyne ahead of their clash at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea had reportedly contacted the Belgian club in the summer regarding a possible move for the teenager but the deal failed to materialise. However, although Villas-Boas confirmed his interest in the player he stopped short of claiming a deal is immanent:

“De Bruyne has always been an interesting player. He can play in several positions, wide left or in central midfield, and is exceptionally gifted technically,” Villas-Boas said.

“He reminds me of the older Belgian players like Enzo Scifo. As you know we scouted Kevin, but we have scouted many players. It doesn’t mean they will all join us.”

De Bruyne is now hoping to recover from injury in time to face Chelsea on Wednesday.
