Marseille vs Arsenal: Preview, Team News & Predicted Team

This will be quite a test for Arsenal. Lets face it. Going to the Stade Velodrome and getting 3 points is really demanding but if the real Arsenal, and by that I mean the Arsenal of the first 20 mins against Sunderland, show up we WILL win.

A quick background check on our opponents reveals that they are unbeaten in the champions league having thrashed Dortmund 3-0 last game week. In the league they are unbeaten in their last 5 games, however that being said they have won only twice of the last 5. Last year they finished runners-up in Ligue 1.

Not conceding and defending well should be the main objective apart from the 3 points. Personally I rather have 2-0 than 3-1 because this defense needs confidence, and a way to get confidence for any defense is to keep clean sheets against top-sides.

Probable Line up :

Rosicky’s performance against Sunderland was brilliant, he looked like his old self. He ran forward, pressurised players and played some lovely football. If he can keep that up, we have got ourselves a great player. Gervinho also looked good on Sunday, He is learning to pass more often now. His performance against Sunderland was an 8/10 for me, and if he maintains this level, he will be crucial for us this season. These 2 along with RVP will be imperative when we attack. Song for me is world class. Same goes for RVP. I’d rather not comment on Theo.

Arshavin was brilliant on Sunday too. Gervinho tends to tire in the second half. But I would be happy if either start today.

Chamberlain should start this game over Walcott, in terms of usefulness as well as to give Walcott a rest. But Wenger didn’t put him in the squad.

i’d play arsh instead of theo. he has earned a starting place with his performance

bring theo in the 2. half when arsh begins to tire.

beside this your line up is spot on (not that we have too many alternatives)

Ashavin and Walcott are interchangeable. Staring with one and bringing another second half is a doable thing but which one? I would start with Ashavin and bring Walcott second half to terrorise tired defenders. Wenger does those mistakes by leaving Oxo kid knowing very well that Anelka was marvelous at 17 years of age when he displaced Ian Wright.
    Whats the difference?

this is exactly the same line up as Sunday! It’ll never happen. Ramsey is back fit and will feature. santos will play and i see djourou in there too. was chamberlain not selected for squad then? he’s awesome. and i agree, arshavin was brilliant sunday and will probably start over gervinho, but would like to see arshavin and gervinho working the flanks…
i think ramsey will start over rosicky too, for fitness, or ramsey will later come on for rosicky as he’s just come back from injury. Rosicky’s passing sunday as absolutely brilliant. he’s got gooner football in his blood which arteta hasn’t yet got. i’m looking forward to the return of Diaby and Wilshire for the same reason too.

    Djourou berty(per)Koscielny Santos
    Arteta Rosicky
    Arshavin RVP Gervinho

Subs: walcott, frimpong, ramsey, benayoun, jenkinson, park, flappyhandski

    Marseille 1 – 2 Arsenal
