Andre Villas-Boas has refused to condemn his defence, despite witnessing his Chelsea side concede five goals as they crashed to a 5-3 defeat at home to Premiership rivals Arsenal yesterday.

This was Chelsea’s second London derby defeat in as many weeks, after the Blues were beaten 1-0 away to QPR last weekend, and the defeat leaves them trailing Manchester United in second place by four points and league leaders Manchester City by nine. However, blues boss Villas-Boas has refused to lay the blame on his defence. He said:

“Before this game we were in the three best defences in the Premier League. It is not a bad record.

“Today it happened but we need to get our shape right, our balance right and continue to work hard.”
