BREAKING NEWS: England Captain Taken To Hospital For Scan

By Football Talk.

England have been given a World Cup scare after captain Rio Ferdinand has been taken to hospital for a scan on a knee injury sustained in training today. Manager Fabio Capello confirmed the news at his first World Cup press conference this lunch-time. Ferdinand sustained the injury to his left knee after a tackle in a practice match during this mornings training session, and Capello had little to say on the extent of the injury and insisted we must wait and see the results of the scan.

“Rio picked up a knee problem in training. It happened near the end. He has gone to hospital for a scan and we will have to see how things are.” Capello said.

With England’s opening game just over a week away, Capello will be sweating on the results of the scan to his captains knee. Should Ferdinand be forced out of the USA clash, it’s likely Tottenham’s Ledley king will partner Chelsea’s John Terry in defence, with Liverpool Steven Gerrard taking over the armband.

Capello also confirmed that David James was forced to train alone in the gym and miss the training session after complaining of pain in his knee. The injury is thought to have been sustained during the long flight to South Africa. The England manager did however say that the problem was a minor one and nothing to worry about.

Stay tuned for updates…..

***UPDATE*** Tottenham’s Michael Dawson has been put on stand-by incase Rio Ferdinand’s injury rules him out of the World Cup.
